The food is delicious and cheap in price. However, the dining experience isn't that great... such a small dining area for a busy area. I recommend that you do delivery.
Pork bone soup was ok. Decent price but my friends bimbimbap with meat had tiny prices of beef. Also my friends credit card got frauded right after using it at this place.
The restaurant was busy around 6:30pm, but we only had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a table for two. We were offered a choice of hot or cold water and served an array of delicious banchan, or side dishes, that come with every Korean meal. All of the side dishes were delicious and fresh, with my favorites being the seaweed and fish cake strips. We decided to try the Dukbokki appetizer, which consisted of rice cakes, veggies, and fish cakes stir-fried with Korean chili pepper sauce. It was spicy and priced at $6.95. This dish was one of the best Dukbokki dishes I have had in Toronto, and it truly reminded me of being back in Korea. The sauce was flavorful and not too thin, while the rice cakes were soft and not too chewy. For our main dish, we chose the Chunggukchang, a traditionally fermented soybean soup with tofu and vegetables. Priced at $8.95, it was listed as #11 on the menu under 'savoury soups'. This dish is a stronger version of the more common dwenjangjjigae fermented soybean soup, and it is not often seen on menus in Korean restaurants in Toronto. Despite its strong smell and taste, I enjoyed the dish, though I prefer dwenjangjjigae for its added seafood variety. The fermented soybean taste was delicious, and the soup came with a bowl of purple rice. Overall, Imonay House Restaurant is a cozy spot in Koreatown with affordable, high-quality food and friendly service. Despite the many options in Koreatown, I can see myself returning to this restaurant in the future.
Pretty Darn Good!. There are plenty of korean restaurants around on bloor, but so far this one is the best. This little restaurant feels more like a home kitchen then a restaurant. The taste of the food is authentic and the service is super friendly. The daenjang used in the daenjang stew tastes homemade (in otherwords FANTASTIC). The silken tofu stew has a great subtle seafood flavor to it. When they have it the Dak tori tang (i.e. spicy chicken stew), is bar none the best on Bloor with a perfect balance of spicy and sweet. Its a great place to eat on a budget or otherwise. I very highly recommend this place.
