"So a few evenings ago having been recommended to try this Indian restaurant / take-out, our family celebrated a birthday at Chawla's. There were ten of us, only three had ever tried Indian food before, and so there was a little trepidation in not knowing what to expect - yet an excitement too at trying something different for a change! My nieces are only 4 and 10 too - so we really didn't know if they would enjoy it... Well - I very rarely give 5 stars - how can I say it better? The staff were very welcoming and Karan, Surrey's very own "Curry King" looked after us from start to finish - helping with choices, getting us to try new and delightful dishes - explaining how in India a "Chaat House" is a lot like a Spanish "Tapas" - where it's wholesome snack food for enjoying with friends or when in a hurry... Great for lunch I would think - but also great as an appetizer for a main meal which is how we did it.Our personal favourites from the appetizers and Chaat House selections were "Dahi Batata Puri" - which even with the amount of eating out I do I find hard to describe - apart from DELICIOUS! It's half way between a spicy desert, a savory starter and a crunchy profiterole with yoghurt - if that makes any sense! All I would say is TRY SOME!! Seriously the best thing I have tasted in a long time... Also the "Amritsari Fish Pakora" was absolutely devoured by all - including the youngsters, as were the vegetable and chicken Samosas...Then we had a selection of Lamb, Fish, Chicken and Vegetarian mains to share, all freshly prepared with real herbs and spices, with a very nice Palau rice, and fresh home made Garlic Naan Bread from their real clay oven for dipping (They even let us gather at the kitchen door to see how they make it by hand). We were all completely full at the end - and even left some, the portions are definitely what I would describe as generous.For desert, as it was a special occasion - our 10 year old had requested a DQ ice-cream cake, and Karan (The Curry King - remember) had personally arranged for it to be stored, with 11 candles on and lit - ready for serving and at no charge above the cost of the cake. A whole extra service and attention to detail that went above the norm, and for which in my eyes wins him an extra point...Last but not least - the cheque came - frankly OMG - probably the best value meal I've ever had - ten of us ate for less than 2 of us at The Keg last week... and there you have it - a five star review and a firm recommendation to all - if you are in Surrey BC, seek out Chawla's on Scott Rd - the food and value for money are outstanding."

"I heard about this new new restaurant in surrey from my friends that they newly opened so think lets try to go for dinner .coz i moved from island so i m not familiar with restaurant in surrey . i went their with my friends the restaurant not so busy but there is some people are sitting so we got warmly welcomed by their staff and offered us table to sit comfortably. the staff is very attentive and friendly we got menus to read and order so read and placed our order after 10 min we got our order in our table the smell was so amazing we eat and i dont have word to explain how amazing the food was they cook realy great food. i loved it and i will go for more to try some other stuff . highly recommended JEWEL OF INDIA its means its Deserved . because .This restaurant did not disappoint and we are not the easiest bunch to impress."

"This restaurant was just re-opened under a new owner. They serve excellent samosa's and Indian food. We tried it for the first time the other day and re-visted today for lunch. Very friendly young owner. The food was very good and we will be back. Thanks Deepak Sharma for a great time."
