The owner host is just so lovely, welcoming and helpful and ready to help you navigate your order. The sushi choices are also excellent and fresh. Even the miso soup at the beginning was some of the best we’ve had anywhere. This place has a small dine-in area and a thriving take out business too. It came highly recommended (from patrons of its old and now new locations) and I agree with them 110%.
Stopped by for lunch on a Sunday. We were seated immediately but, presumably due to Covid, they only can seat five people so several groups after us had to wait. I had ramen and my wife a Tonkatsu bento box. Both were very good—not the best Japanese food I have had but a good lunch at a very reasonable price. Service was great.
Been going here for years and now even make the drive from the Westside to eat here! Easily the most authentic Ramen in town, delicious curry, perfect Katsu, and the best sushi. Having been to Japan, this is easily comparable to the small restaurants in Tokyo or Kyoto. On top of it all? It’s run by the sweetest couple in town. I recommend everything but especially the Okinawa Soba, Spicy Teriyaki Chicken, and the Spicy Peanut Dumplings!
Always looking for something new and on a cold day we found Gen Kai's. It was nice and quiet so we got great service. The tables were clean and the food was colorful and flavorful. I suggest taking the Art bus if work on Central it was quick and easy to walk too.
The food we got was absolutely delicious! My husband, who is from Hawaii, has been looking for chicken katsu and it made him so happy tobdiscover it here. The quantity of food you goy was more than sufficient. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because we didn't realize from the website that this place is only offering takeout currently. We planned a work meeting with our lunch which we ended up needing to do in our car as there were no tables or benches anywhere that we could use.
