While we certainly understand the staffing shortages in our area, there was lack of efficiency and effectiveness. We had a reservation for 6pm and we were prompt. We were seated immediately. 10min later we were told by the hostess that someone would be with us shortly as they were short staffed. We said we understood. 10 more minutes passed and we finally got a glass of water. We were then asked if we wanted to hear the evenings specials. We said we would prefer to have a cocktail and oysters to start. We ordered cocktails and a dozen oysters. By 6:30pm we still have no drinks and no appetizers. We were then told that they were out of the Hendrix Gin which their cocktails list as the ingredient. So we said ok and opted for another label, no problem. We were then told “due to technical difficulties” our cocktails would be awhile. A table of 6 was seated after us, they received their water quickly and they also already had cocktails. At that moment given this was our anniversary we informed the server that since we were 30 minutes into our visit and only had water in front of us we were going to leave and have our anniversary dinner somewhere else! Thankfully, Hudson’s is right next door we took a chance not having a reservation and were seated promptly offered a beverage and appetizers. Our evening ended very well and we had an excellent dining experience! Service difference was night and day!!!! I am sorry to say we will more than likely not return to Kitchen Del Mar.
The service staff was excellent, and responsive to all concerns. Decor lovely. Husband had best chicken fried steak brisket) he’d ever had. Still working out a few kinks as a new restaurant, but deserves to succeed! Will definitely be back and spread the word.
Had dinner on a Friday night. We were greeted by very friendly staff, and checked up on by periodically. Although a booth was requested, we were seated in the middle of a relatively empty restaurant. The waitress we had “acted” confident, but was new didn’t know the menu, or understand dietary requests. She also didn’t know about any happy hour, specials even though their website said it was from 4 10 The food was prepared well but the fish order was a small portion and my rib eye was not a quality steak (very chewy). Disappointed, for the pricing and hope they make adjustments because we need good restaurants in this area.
I have no idea why this restaurant has received such mediocre reviews. We were a party of 4, picky adults who absolutely loved everything we had. Victoria was our server and not only was she was adorable, she was also very good at her job. The ambient, live music was appropriate, and enjoyable, for our dining experience. My husband had some kind of pasta dish with clams that he did not care for, but ONLY due to personal preference. Among the items we ate were the Conneticut Oysters, Burrata Salad, Carpaccio, Scallops, Ribeye, and they were all wonderful, but the Cheesecake White Chocolate Brulee stole the show! Don't pay attention to other reviews, you have to try this place for yourself!
Out of a lot of things including martini glasses and entrees , short staffed, staff friendly but not knowledgeable about the menu! Took over 40 minutes to get a drink! We did have fun and the food was good tho!
