I was working in Bairnsdale for a couple of days and chose to go here mainly because it was cold, I was tired and it was very close to my motel.<br/ <br/ Living in Footscray and having been to Vietnam I have been to my share of Vietnamese restaurants good, bad and middling. While most around me seemed to be having the Vietnamese rice flour pancakes (banh xeo) which are not that common on menus, I had the shitake mushroom and tofu stew with ginger, chilli and shallots. It was delicious and a great warming dish on a cold night. I returned for my lunch the next day, having takeaway pork and prawn rice paper rolls which had just the right amount of Vietnamese mint and the rice paper texture was perfect, neither falling apart nor too tough, as many tend to be. Delicious again.<br/ <br/ I'll be back if/when I return to Bairnsdale.
Friendly Affordable. A local mentioned this recently opened Vietnamese Restaurant to us during a holiday in Gippsland. It was situated at the western end of Main St Bairnsdale. The cuisine is traditional Vietnamese offered as both take-away or seated in a cosy, simple but well presented restaurant secluded at the rear. The owner operators are extremely welcoming friendly; table staff are young locals; I suggest learning as they go but eager to assist. The rice paper rolls, Tom Yum soup are excellent. Not sure how authentic a steamed Dim Sim is to Vietnamese but the home made ones here are different worth a try. We shared a combination of chicken and beef mains that were also very good. The surprise was that our table of 4 having bought along BYO had more than adequate food for a tad over $90 in total.
I purchased a Vietnamese iced coffee from here, a little pricey at $6 but the flavour was fantastic Update stopped in on the way through Bairnsdale and ate in, we ate Chilli and Lemon grass Beef, Special Fried Rice and Vietnamese Chicken and vegetable with rice noodle. Of course I had another Vietnamese iced coffee and my wife had a pot of tea. Good food, friendly fast service and reasonably priced at $55.
In Bairnsdale for a couple of nights and found their menu in our motel room. Just a block from our motel. Rang through our order and walked down to pick it up. Steamed Dim Sims were best we have tasted. Our two meals were excellent, fresh and plentiful. Try it for yourself.
I stopped in here for lunch on my way to Mallacoota. The staff were very friendly and the service was quick. I had Satay Beef and Vegetables, good size portion and quite tasty.
