Upon our arrival, we requested a caramel cortado but were told by the barista that she couldn't serve us caffeine because we were under 16. Despite our assurance that we were indeed 16, the barista became aggressive and hostile. We have visited this Costa location many times in the past without any issues, so we were confused as to why this was happening now. Disappointed and upset, we left the restaurant empty-handed.
A senior woman at the restaurant served me the wrong drink. When I politely pointed out the mistake, she yelled aggressively at me and was very rude instead of correcting it. I would not recommend this Costa. Additionally, I observed her picking items off the dirty floor and making drinks without washing her hands, displaying poor hygiene practices.
I do feel sorry for staff in busy areas, having worked in service for years myself... But the customer service here is cold and rude. They must have a lot of people using or abusing the public toilets because i was forced to buy a drink before going in, to get the code on a receipt. As someone with an invisible condition I was grateful there wasn't a queue and that I'd taken my medication properly... Otherwise it would have been an uncomfortable and risky wait. When I got my receipt the code was printed so small I struggled to get it right without digging my glasses out of my bag, very inaccessible. The server then shouted at me across the room not to use the disabled toilet... To use the other one. No one waiting for disabled but one lady waiting for normal. Just because you aren't in a wheelchair doesn't mean you don't have a need for accessible... Bowl cancers, pain, colitis, muscle issues, pain and an array of medical conditions aren't visible but may call for an urgent need for an accessible toilet. I asjed the server after to remember not all disabilities are visible and accosting customers across the restaurant is inappropriate. The response today (lunchtime) was dismissive and unapologetic. I certainly won't use this csfe again when there's a friendly starbucks over the road. Customer facing behavior and attitude needs to be addressed... Do better Costa.
I have been visiting Costa at Barking Station for a few years, though not every day, but at least a few times a month. As a diabetic patient, I urgently needed to use the restroom and asked the staff if a code was needed. The staff impatiently and rudely replied that the restroom was only for customers. Although I may not have always used the restroom while being a customer, I intended to use it and possibly stay for coffee, but I left feeling uncomfortable due to being denied access to the restroom. The most frustrating part was dealing with the incompetent and unsympathetic manager, especially after explaining my condition as a diabetic. This manager showed no care for a person in urgent need of using the restroom. No other coffee shop has ever questioned me like this, highlighting the incompetence and impoliteness of the manager who should not be in a customer service role.
Basically I have used wanted to use the toilet and be customer but I was made to wait to place a order when there was a long que and then I had to hold my urine for 10 minutes until I could make my order and use the toilet and to find out it was opened and I didn’t need the code.
