Maine-ly Delights Ii - Bass Harbor

Mainely Delights is situated near the Swan's Island ferry terminal in Bass Harbor. We enjoyed some excellent lobster takeout, including lobster rolls and lobster dinners. The food was well-packaged, allowing us to bring it home while it was still hot and tasty. The service was both quick and friendly. This summer, Maine was quite crowded, making takeout a convenient choice. The restaurant also features a lovely deck that looked really inviting.

I used to eat here regularly when I was a kid, about 30 years ago, so I was excited to return for a visit. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed to find that the main restaurant has closed down due to new fire regulations that they couldn't afford to meet. Instead, they've now set up a food truck in the back. As a result, you're essentially dining on standard festival fare from a food truck. I ordered the burger, but it was nothing special—just a basic Sysco-style patty. The fries were the twice-fried variety, which also appeared to come straight from a frozen bag. In my opinion, it wasn't worth the calories. The place used to have a genuine homemade flair, but that seems to have disappeared. The only remaining charm is that you can eat on the deck enjoying nice weather, but otherwise, it feels like just a takeout food truck serving Sysco-quality food.

The classic Maine cuisine was impressive, and my black raspberry milkshake was the highlight of the meal—it was absolutely incredible! Everything else we tried was fantastic as well. If you venture down towards the parking lot, you'll come across a steep, rocky path leading to a beach. If you're able to navigate the slope, take some time to relax on this lovely stretch of sand. It’s filled with interesting rocks and offers beautiful views of the harbor.

We enjoyed the lobster bake, and the food was excellent. The staff was very friendly as well.
