As a guest in a 4-star hotel you can believe and expect some higher standards. Not so in the gourmet restaurant in this Novotel. There, where only about 5 or 6 smaller tables are occupied. Far from busy and expected waiting time should be just a few minutes (this is what we thought.. This is in a prefect world, but not in the gourmet restaurant Novotel. We waited 20-30min someone brought a QR code card to make choice for drinks. The choice also for meals was super limited (tested a COVID-19 thing and we can overlook it. After 15mins we ordered the drinks and meals, our waitress came back after 40mins and asked what secondary dishes we ordered?!? So she forgot everything about us? No thanks never again...
Our neighboring IBIS had no real restaurant, so we started next door. Order to various pasta dishes. Both were delicious and properly cooked and seasoned. Service was very good.
Usually we prefer when we travel, but unfortunately we had a terrible experience at the Gourmet Bar restaurant. Menu range/options were minimal, but food was OK, but the service from the bar AND the restaurant was not acceptable. We found the restaurant manager...to make up, and we've never experienced this, especially during our last 3 weeks traveling through Switzerland). Although we liked this hotel, our experience with the Gourmet Bar and Restaurant would affect all possible future stays.
The rooms are large and clean. The beds are comfortable. The vanity set is very handy . The hotel is well located because it is easy to park and there is a tramway going to the center just in front. The tramways pass was offered...by the hotel. Any way, it's a fifteen minutes walk to the zoological gardens and the old town. There are activities for children and a basic fitness center two bikes, a running mat and another machine). The restaurant was being refurbished when we were there and they had a limited menu because of that, but I hope there are some traditional swiss meals served otherwise. The breakfast is varied exept for tea: Lipton is not an appropraite brend of tea selection for a four star hotel. On the whole, the offer of drinks for breakfast was not satisfactory: no proper expresso, no difference between the Latte Machiato and the cappucino. The rosties are delicious, but the scrambled eggs are overcooked. All the traditional swiss food are great and the bacon is also very well cooked. The staff is very helpful.
Das Restaurant, das essen und das Personal 5 Sterne, an der Bar kann man sehr gute trinks wie so auch essen geniessen.
