You need to take a trip from the city to get there, but the ride is worth it. The view is beautiful and the food is great. Never in my life I had an enchilada like the one I had in the Rancho Grande. Words of wisdom, steps to the restaurant rival the Italian museums. Look at the picture of the stairs so you know what I'm talking about.
My husband and I were on an ATV Adventure Tour and Rancho Grande was the highlight with a stop for lunch! They first, pointed us to the restrooms and a sink where we could wash up for lunch. We were all filthy, sweaty and dusty...to say the least. : The grounds were absolutely gorgeous and the view over the valley was incredible. There were two iguanas waiting for us in one of the trees when we first parked our ATV's which was also pretty cool. The owner was extremely pleasant and stopped at each table to chat with all of us. He seemed to linger at our table, which was nice. I felt like we really got to know him and a little about his family as well. I sincerely hope his little daughter is feeling better. : After we placed our orders and the food was being prepared, the owner brought us all over to a table where he had several different bottles of tequila, then he proceeded to walk us through the tequila making process and taught us all how to properly taste a sample of it. We did this 4 times with two flavored tequilas and two that weren't flavored but different levels of quality. We learned a lot and the owner bubble wrapped our bottle and transported it for us to the end of our ATV tour where we could carry it back to our resort and pack it away in our suitcase to bring home to Florida with us. It travelled just fine and tastes amazing! Definitely would go here again given the opportunity.
Do yourself a big favor and try Rancho Grande! Our party of 8 arrived at 5:55 not knowing the restaurant closed at 6pm (on Sunday anyway) and our host told us not a problem and remained open to accommodate us. The ranch and restaurant are...spectacular with the best views of mountains, ocean and the most amazing flowers i have ever seen. Our group agreed we had the best Margaritas ever..and we know our tequila! I had a Papaya margarita and friends enjoyed a Starfruit one, most complimented though was the real Lime Margarita on the Rocks. Perfect combo of fresh fruit and tequila..yum! We just had appetizers but everything was crisp and fresh and flavorful. Our waiter was very funny and kept us entertained with stories and toasts that had us laughing the entire time. We loved our evening at Rancho Grande..friends told us they do terrific breakfast, brunch or lunch as well. Try it!
The panoramic view from the restaurant is what sets this place apart from other locations. That and the fact that the pork tacos were the best I had while I was in Mexico for a week. I definitely recommend eating at this place if you...stop there on an ATV tour (as my wife and I did).
