The favourite dish was the foccaccia fried bread with truffle beef carpacio and chocolate fondant . Slightly on the overpriced side but I'm guessing we're paying for the view. Great wine choices-the sparkling rose by the glass is a hit. Good service, however they failed to let us know about the specials on the day.
We had a really great time here for dinner. Service was awesome, beautiful view, yummy dinner and wine and cocktails. Went for my birthday with my parents and partner. We shared a whole lot of starters and had a main each. Really decent sized portions. Will be back!
7/5 On a perfect day we were a walk-in and Damien could not have been more welcoming. Yes of course I’m terribly sorry he said all the front tables are booked but have this one! Perfect! Shaded and Cool looking straight NNE to the Solomons. Almost flying fish weather still two months from spring but beautiful. A snappy few campari with soda then coffin bay oysters and the chat potatoes waiting for mains..the place was buzzing and pleasantly designed, renovated and old modern. Beach bar meets verandah meets pavilion and accessible for just a coffee through to full meals. The roast pumpkin agnolotti in a burnt butter with Cavolo nero. I’m guessing it was blue pumpkin because it roasted up beautifully. Squid’s ink spaghetti and cuttlefish were exquisite. The best was the lightly fried gnocchi with osso bucco. A radicchio walnut salad to lift the palate. Perfectly sized portions house made pasta and a quick and engaging service. Thanks Damian and Jess. You are, with respect worthy custodians of possibly the number one dune set cafe on the easterly edge of carrier Australia. In the hothouse of fresh food and excellent cuisine that is Byron Bay and surrounds Beach has the position, the service, and the cuisine, and clearly love their work.
We went for dinner on a night when a monster storm rolled through, which obviously provided some additional work for the staff. The place is pricey $240 for 2, with a mid priced wine and public holiday surcharge). As noted by other reviewers, the view is absolutely stunning.<br/ <br/ The menu is solid: narrow range weighted to seafood, which is why we picked it. The wine list is really well put together, great choice of beers and cocktails, and a great range of sensibly priced wines $50 a $250. It also had a nice range of vermouth etc, more on that later.<br/ <br/ We had an Ochota Barrels Riesling very nice accompaniment to the food). Entrees we had the raw fish tuna) and burrata: fish was good; but the produce used in the burrata was poor awful cheese and tasteless tomatoes, with 2 basil leaves. Both our mains were excellent: snapper with zucchini and pea salad, and mahi mahi with tomato and almonds. The potato salad was actually pretty good, but probably not what we were expecting I just thought posh chips). The tiramisu was great, just a classic like mum used to make.<br/ <br/ I will tackle service in 2 parts. Firstly, we were put next to a couple of large tables with kids they were horrible whining or on devices with the volume blaring if I was at the Byron hotel, fair enough, but this is not “fine dining”. However, unsure what the owners can do about this. <br/ <br/ Secondly, the service overall is a bit ****. We got nothing, then water and an explanation of specials, then nothing, then wine and entrees because Nikolina thought they might not come back), then we ordered mains, ordered dessert straight after mains on the same theory. I got the wine list but gave up on the after dinner drink. Their Italian friends got the seat at the front and good service, until they got forgotten, but I had run out of sympathy by then. Everyone was serving their own wine. Either just not enough staff, or badly organised.<br/ <br/
Lovely ambience and a fantastic view , all wait staff were friendly and helpful and of course our meals were great , a little expensive but the quality is there . Good winelist and plenty available by the glass . I would recommend the tiramisu and the coffee excellent
