Sam 's is one of the best places in the Valley. When people ask for a rec to any coffee shop, I will always say this place. It 's good but not too good, ya know. My friend and I go here during our breaks in between classes and its always quite empty which is a plus for us since were so loud. We got the apple something frittata and the ratio to the meat to the egg is good but it was a little dry- which is understandable since it was sitting out, so just expect that. We also got the white cheddar and prosciutto quiche which is always so consistent and buttery. It 's so so so so so so good TO ME but my friend said it was nothing special though *eye roll*. Otherwise it 's delicious. For drinks we got the hazelnut latte with oat milk and the Irish mocha. Both fine but also it gets better as you drink more. Something I super suggest getting is the chocolate croissant (pain au chocolat) because it 's so flakey and soft but crunchy. Sooooo good, I need like 20 of them. Also one of the biggest pluses is that it 's cute inside and out, there 's so much seating outside and Im sure you 'll see me wasting my time there during the summer! This place makes me love Calistoga.
I'm going to be nice and give 4 stars instead of 3 that they might actually deserve. I ordered a espresso and breakfast sandwich to take back to my room. Small, but nice space. The small was an issue because I was there during the breakfast rush which left me with no place to sit or stand out of the way while I waited for my food to be reheated. I got my espresso pretty quickly. It was probably one of the worst espresso I've ever had. Bland and bitter. No big deal it's easy to mess up an espresso. But it took what seemed like longer than necessary for them to reheat the breakfast sandwich. Still not a big deal I was still flying high on the previous day's massage and my morning swim in the 85 degree pool in the cold rain (highly recommend). I got back to my room sat down to eat my breakfast and found out they gave me the wrong order. I think it was an empanada. I decided just to eat instead of driving back in the rain. When I tore it opened I discovered it was still cold in the middle. This means I had to go all the way back and request my correct order. More regret. The breakfast sandwich was salty but bland (how is that even possible). I think made with powdered eggs (they were that bad). There was one slice of thick cut bacon that made the entire sandchich a greasy mess. This is on my do not repeat list.
I was really disappointed by this place. It looks nice from the outside, but the food is mediocre and the service is terrible. Pre-made breakfast sandwiches that they just reheat, supermarket quality pastries, and the drinks are nothing special either. The service was so bad I don't even want to talk about it, but let's just say I regret leaving a tip (that's probably why they ask for it up-front). I'm sad I wasted my morning here when I could've driven to Bouchon Bakery or Model Bakery.
Great coffee and warm, cozy and friendly indoors and outdoor spaces. Staff are very friendly
