I dined at three different locations during a week-long holiday in January and each meal was unforgettable. Some highlights included roasted king prawn with a hot and sweet sauce, roasted scallops with seasonal vegetables, crab meat sweet corn soup, filet steak with black buzz chili, salad with chopped oyster meat, and a fun Singapore-style dish. I am eagerly looking forward to my next visit. Some tips: the restaurant is always busy with all three floors filled, the line moves slowly, but the maitre d' and waitstaff are friendly.
Other restaurants may be smarter or more specialised; the presentation of their foods could be more sharp, their ingredients more fine. but as a whole it is difficult to imagine that in every chinatown there is a safer bet than mr. kong.
This restaurant makes me feel smug. On my approach along Lisle Street I invariably encounter hoards of unknowing people desperately looking for that hidden Chinatown gem, trying to weigh up who has the most window stickers, but with no real idea of how on earth to tell them apart. At this point I'm always so thankful for my knowledge of Mr. Kong. I know the place to go For starters the wonderfully friendly staff always greet us with open arms, they sit us at our favourite tables, and remember our favourite dishes (of which there are many), though not at the expense of a bit of encouragement for us to try a few new things This is definitely a restaurant in which you can try new things...read more
The food at Mr. Kong's is excellent. The menu is extensive and can be overwhelming, but they manage to maintain consistency in everything they offer. This restaurant is a standout, similar to a high-quality continental restaurant that serves a perfect crème brûlée or a Chinese restaurant that makes a delicious crispy bark dish. The seafood dishes are particularly tasty and expertly prepared. If you visit, be sure to also try some of their pot-cooked dishes.
As perfectly cooked and seasoned, while the sea bass was tender and flavorful. The atmosphere at Herr Kong was cozy and inviting, and the service was attentive and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone craving authentic Cantonese cuisine.
