I recently tried the medium-sized hot and sour soup at this restaurant. While it wasn't the best I've ever had, it was still pretty decent. The soup was filled with bamboo shoots and tofu, which made it quite filling. However, I wish there had been more meat in it. The soup base had a nice warmth to it, likely from the heavy use of black pepper, which I personally enjoyed. The consistency of the soup was good as well. Overall, I would definitely order it again.
This was my first time dining at this restaurant, but I am no stranger to Chinese cuisine. The service was fast and friendly, and more attentive than other similar restaurants. The menu was pretty standard, with flavors that varied from other restaurants. This restaurant had a more southern Chinese flare. We ordered potstickers (which had a thin skin and were a bit soggy), chicken chow mein (which was tasty), Mongolian beef (which was excessively salty), and curry chicken (which was tasty). The soup and spring rolls at the beginning of the meal were good, with crispy spring rolls served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. The prices were about standard as well.
On March 9, 2022, at 5 PM, I visited a restaurant that had a cozy atmosphere with plenty of indoor seating and soft lighting that would be perfect for a date. It seemed like most of their orders were for online takeout, so the inside was relatively empty. It's important to let them know if you're dining in so they can seat you promptly. They offered hot tea as soon as we sat down. I tried the plum wine, which is known for its sweetness. The side rice was plain, which I appreciated since it was clear that no extra ingredients were added. However, it didn't taste very fresh and seemed to be jasmine rice. For an appetizer, I ordered the Boiled Meat Dumplings, which were delicious and served steaming hot. They tasted even better with soy sauce. For the main course, I chose the Hot Braised Beef Stew, which arrived in a nice hot bowl still bubbling. The flavor was good, albeit slightly on the salty side, with hints of various spices. The meat had a mix of lean and fatty pieces, and when paired with the side of rice, it was a satisfying dish. Both the appetizer and main dish had a strong taste of ginger and garlic, which I enjoyed. The server was pleasant and didn't interrupt while we were eating. They only provided one napkin to start with, so be careful not to make a mess. They will give you an extra one if you ask. Overall, it was a decent experience.
I found Shan Shan Low while looking for local places that prepare Peking Duck. Their version is good, but the skin wasn't as crisp as I would have liked. However there are lots of fantastic choices that they do have. Their chili oil has a great depth of flavor, which makes the Mapo Tofu one of my favorites. I also greatly enjoy most of their seafood offerings and the few pork dishes they make are all great. The Mongolian Beef is also quite good. If you happen to be in the area around lunch time, their specials are an excellent deal as well.
