Unfortunately, many items we requested were not available, such as the crab which was substituted with cod (which they also did not have). It was frustrating to see the waiter constantly rushing back and forth to check on what was still available. Overall, the experience was disappointing and we will not be returning. Very poor service.
Excellent dinner (one of the few restaurants open on Saturday), best for price-quality! Among the best in Cornwall, I definitely recommend it
We have been dining here for many years and have to say we have been unimpressed with the new management. Despite the fact that when we first visited under the new managers, we were assured that they valued local customers, this seems to have gone by the board. The welcome when we arrived was underwhelming compared to how it used to be no offer to take coats, no drinks to come while we looked at the menu, in general a fairly cool reception. Part of the experience used to be the warmth of the welcome. The menu has become very limited to the point where we could not find a dessert that appealed to us and the main courses have very little local produce as well as a very limited choice. The service was relatively slow considering how few people were in the restaurant. We were also puzzled by the terminology regarding the service charge 'a discretionary service charge of 10% will be levied ' a bit of a contradiction in terms! When we left there was not a soul in sight to say goodbye or ask if we had had a good evening. I don 't think we will be returning anytime soon as there are many other restaurants that offer better value for money and a much warmer atmosphere. Really disappointed. It isn 't the cheapest place to eat but we have previously been happy that it gave good value for money.
Compared to the older days of the bay restaurant, this experience was a disappointment. We were informed of several menu items that were unavailable, so I settled for the fish and chips as my first option. While it wasn't awful, it was overly salted, making it difficult to enjoy. In hindsight, we regret not dining out, but since we were staying at the hotel, we decided to eat in.
While on vacation with our friends, we were thrilled to discover this restaurant located within the Penzance Hotel. We received exceptional service from the waitstaff and savored a variety of delicious dishes, from a seafood platter to salmon spiced kebabs and prawn Malabar curry. The service was top-notch and friendly, and the food was excellent value for the price.
