If you asked Japanese living in Baton Rouge, nine out of ten would say 'Sushi-Yama ' is (was the best sushi restaurant in BTR, hands down. Mr. Oui created and owned this gem before moving to Covington. I am 100% sure that this is the best in Louisiana outside NOLA (or possibly including NOLA . Fresh ingredients and careful treatment of these materials result in great dishes. The small operation makes it possible for the chef to check details in every dish, which wasn 't possible in Sushi-Yama. If you haven 't tried it yet, you don 't know what you are missing. This restaurant is that good and FB reviews show it (at this point, 51 five stars and 1 four!!! . Recommended: Atlantic salmon appetizer, Futomaki special (not on the menu , Omakase nigiri (could be pricey, but worth it .
Extremely happy to have found this hidden gem! The diverse types of fish they bring in are impressive. Everything is very fresh and will melt in your mouth. Love the creativity in their sauces as well. The word is getting around and I’m very happy to see our community supporting a fabulous addition to DT Cov!
Really fresh sushi! They start you off with a simple cucumber salad that was very good. Then we enjoyed the salmon appetizer which was drizzled with truffle oil and was absolutely delicious! We also tried the wasabi salad, a mix of fresh seafood with an amazing dressing including fresh wasabi. Also had the Tiger Roll which was really great! And they finished our meal off with some tasty fresh pineapple-which was a great touch! We will definitely be back to explore more of their menu!
Hands down the BEST sushi I've ever had! Would highly recommend this place to anyone on the northshore. The staff was very attentive and nice and the sushi chef was very knowledgeable made sure we were completely satisfied. Will definitely he back!!
We started with the Spicy Tuna Lover starter.. worth every penny! Tuna was extremely fresh, sauce was fantastic, presentation was beautiful. We then had the Rachael Roll without rice excellent, again super fresh and beautiful presentation. Next was the Six Three Roll without rice and wrapped in soy I was a little surprised that the pepper tuna was seared, but thankfully only seared. Again, absolutely delicious. The last roll we tried was the Little Rice Roll, we ordered it exactly as described on the menu. It indeed had very little rice. The special sauce had truffle oil, giving it a very interesting (and good) flavor. While delicious, we enjoyed the other two rolls more. Excellent service, beautiful atmosphere, I'll be back. In fact, I'm ordering take out today (trying the V. Roll and the Burrito Roll, and of course getting Spice Tuna Lover again).
