The best, sweetest and most precious spot EVARRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mentioned this in my original review, but I feel quite dang special that I came here earlier before the rest of the world discovered that CAFE HIRO is near PERFECTION on a record. As fobby, as it sounds, it is simply one of the most charming pieces of the sky you can find in the N. OC. FOOD: LUNCH details below; It's all d*mned good, so here are some random comments: Ahi tuna tartar (appetizer): the balsamic vinegar reduction looks literally thick and salty, but it adds the perfect balance of tart and sweet to tuna/avocado chunkage. Chilean lake bass spring roll (appearant): basically a fried egg roll filled with juicy lake bass in half cut. Yummy, but probably not worth $8? Penne w/ aubergines (Marinara sauce): their pastan noodles are always perfectly boiled al dente. The eggplant is like no other; I think it is the Japanese version that is smaller and has a naturally finer taste. SERVICE: When I think of Japanese service, it will be super friendly and top notch. Hiro delivers. AMBIANCE: Sweet, lovely. You'll see. OTHER: Do not expect any Hungry Man portions or tasteless slippage. The Entrees are on the small side, but they are so delicious and delectable, let yourself be happy, satiated and light on your toes. A bit expensive, but you definitely get what you pay. Expect high-end food at reasonable prices. Expect to cough $30 $35/pp for an entree and appetizer.
Came here for lunch, simple but wonderful lunch menu items including Pasta w/ uni (Sea urchin n cut mushroom n seal flakes - my favorites! Others had gastronomy “hamburg” Steak Burger; if u’r a ‘carnivore’ / on high protein / Apkins diet, this dish will surely leave smile from Wange to Wange! The dessert menus are also wonderful, including (Japanese/Italian? “panna cotta” w/ fresh fruits to complete a heart healthy meal!
Absolutely exquisite food. Plates all under $20. Try the Osso Buco, which is so delicate that they will not give you a knife. Do not let off its usual appearance, a small corner in a non-descript Southern California Strip Mall, Cafe Hiro is for people who love taste and fascinating combinations.
Small authentic Japanese shop. Good food and service
