I was excited to try a steakhouse that has been ranked as one of the top 101 Steak Restaurants in the world for four years in a row. And F.X. Buckley lived up to its reputation! The service was exceptional and the steak was outstanding. I opted for the 22oz Rib Eye on the bone, which was juicy and full of flavor. The cajun onions added a nice touch, and the fries were thick, crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. We absolutely loved it!
FX Buckley turned out to be a last-minute birthday treat! During our visit to Dublin in May, my cousin and I had originally planned to dine at a different restaurant for my birthday dinner. However, due to my fashionably late arrival (which is surely allowed on one's birthday), we missed our reservation. Fortunately, the night before, we had met a chef at Brazen Head who suggested FX Buckley as a great alternative. After missing our reservation, we decided to try our luck at FX Buckley and they were able to accommodate us within an hour, which was perfect. While we enjoyed a pint at the pub across the street, Daniel, the host/manager, came over to seat us. We had an incredible dinner experience from start to finish. Our waiter, possibly named George (though I had written down Robert in my phone for some reason), was fantastic. We started off with cocktails - I had the espresso martini while my cousin opted for the whiskey sour and later tried the bourbon old fashioned with a fun smokey presentation. The steak selection process was a highlight, with a variety of cuts displayed for us to choose from. I went with the 12 oz sirloin and my cousin chose the 12 oz rib eye. We also ordered the creamy mashed potato with spring onion, green beans with shallot dressing, and caramelized onions as additional sides. The array of steak sauces offered was impressive, with all four varieties brought out for us to enjoy. My personal favorites were the garlic butter and Bearnaise, although the pepper sauce and bone marrow jus were also delicious. The meal concluded with a delightful birthday surprise - a vanilla crème brûlée with a candle. Although the restaurant is cozy in size, the atmosphere is lovely and I am grateful they were able to accommodate us without a reservation. Overall, it was a memorable birthday dinner and I look forward to dining at FX Buckley again on my next trip to Dublin.
I didn't plan on visiting this restaurant, but it turned out to be the highlight of my trip to Ireland. Our tour guide recommended it for their grass-fed beef, so we decided to give it a try. Although we couldn't get same-day reservations, we arrived early at 5:30pm and were able to be seated. I highly suggest making reservations in advance though. The waiter brought out a platter of various cuts of meat and gave us an introduction, which was a nice touch. We ordered the Porterhouse for 2 (€105), a side of Sugar Pit Bacon (€4.95), and a bottle of Urban Malbec (€44). The Porterhouse was perfect for a date night, with all the extras like sauteed mushrooms, onions, mashed potatoes, chips or fries, green beans, and broccolini. It was absolutely delicious! Make sure to come hungry, as this meal is one you won't want to miss amidst all the meat and potatoes in Ireland.
In my opinion, the best steak house in Dublin. Both the quality of the beef and how it is prepared is critical, and they get it correct on both attributes. I had the bone in ribeye and the cut had just the right amount of marbling and was cooked to true medium rare, just as ordered. I like the fried onions that were included and the fact I could substitute a salad for the potatoes. The creamed spinach side was also great. The atmosphere also works for a steakhouse, it is old school without being fake old school (where they try too hard) and service is quite efficient. Best steak house experience I've had in Dublin.
Food was delicious but you don't get much for what you pay for. Although the bone marrow was definitely worth it. Obviously all the food is incredible quality and great service too. They have beautiful modern water carafes that caught my eye. Nice bathrooms too.
