Hong Kong Star - Dumfries Galloway

I ordered a special curry and crispy chicken fried rice with chips and curry sauce. I felt rushed and the meal seemed hastily put together, possibly due to COVID restrictions. The food was absolutely tasteless. The chicken appeared undercooked and there was only a small amount of curry sauce. I will not be ordering from this restaurant again. I do not recommend it.

We dined at this restaurant for the first time and were pleasantly surprised. After attending a rally on a rainy evening, we were happy to discover that Hong Kong Start was warm and cozy. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and even though they had run out of sparkling water, they offered us prawn crackers while we made our choices. I opted for a glass of wine instead, which was quite enjoyable. We tried the mixed starter, which consisted of a selection of deep-fried crispy items that were delicious. I ordered the chicken with green pepper and black bean sauce, which was very tasty, and my husband's salt and pepper beef had a nice kick from the chilies. Overall, we had a fantastic meal at a great value, costing about £10 less than a similar meal we had at another restaurant the week before.

We were treated like royalty from the moment we entered the restaurant. We were looked after by three wonderful people people. we were given a large complementary bowl of prawn crackers which was a great touch. The wine we wanted was unavailable but they gave us a generous glass of tasters of the alternative! Likewise the sampler of curry sauce I got to try test how spicy it was. It was just the ticket, by this time the empty prawn cracker bowl had been replaced! Our meals arrived, special curry for me, all good but the highlight was the beautifully cooked fresh prawns. My wife had in her words the best chicken chow mien she 'd ever had. Thanks to all the team for making it a truly memorable meal.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at Nunlands Holiday Park, we had a list of takeouts in the lodge and once we looked at all the reviews for this Chinese takeaway we decided to go with this particular one. The food is outstanding! Best Chinese I’ve ever tasted, shame we live so far away otherwise this place would be perfect. Staff were lovely and polite. We had Chicken fried rice, Egg fried rice, Salt and Pepper chicken, Gravy and Prawn Crackers. Everything was cooked perfect and good serving amount. Cannot recommend this place enough x

After looking up Chinese restaurants in Dumfries we decided on the Hong Kong Star Firstly yes it’s a bit dated but very clean and I would much rather have a clean restaurant with good food than a modern looking one were the food is poor or unclean With regards the food I had the sizzling rainbow style pork and my wife had the sizzling satay with chicken ,both were excellent probably the best Chinese I have had for a very long time and the service received from Sharon and here colleague was exceptional (sorry did not get the other girls name) In a nutshell if your looking for a great Chinese with great service in Dumfries give this place a try you won’t be disappointed
