Grace Dent's rave review of G&D in The Guardian was a stark contrast to my underwhelming experience as a regular diner. The Askham Group clearly has a specific vision for the establishment, with a sleek website, intriguing menu, and a beautifully designed building that may feel more staged than authentic. However, during my visit, the food was inconsistent and lacked value, especially with mediocre vegetarian options. The service was also lacking, with slow drink service, incorrect orders, and minimal check-ins. Even after providing feedback via email, the response felt dismissive and uninterested. Overall, my birthday celebration at G&D fell short of expectations, leaving me to wonder if the restaurant is relying too heavily on its reputation.
We chose the George and Dragon as it was in the perfect place for an overnight journey break. Really pleased we chose it! Friendly helpful staff, an immaculate bedroom with super comfy bed and a good shower. Our evening meal was well cooked, beautifully presented and most importantly tasted good. The chips were perfection. A lovely breakfast completed a great stay. Thanks to all involved … wish we lived locally!
If you love your food, this place is a pure delight. The quality is second to none, thanks to the knowledge andhard work of the chiefs. I cannot recommend highly enough. The quality of ingredients is super fresh, veg cooked exactly, meats just right. Staff were so friendly, we enjoyed every moment. Thank you so much.
Have just returned from a 40th Birthday lunch for eight people. We all had a superb meal with excellent service (bearing in mind how busy it was) from pleasant, friendly staff. I would agree with other reviews that prices are on the high side but the quality and presentation of the food was excellent. Thank you all
