As we strolled along the Royal Mile, we stumbled upon this charming family-owned restaurant and decided to have breakfast there for the remainder of our stay in Edinburgh. We highly recommend trying the French toast and eggs - it made for a totally satisfying breakfast experience.
My mom and I were standing outside of this cafe, looking at the menu and trying to decide if we should go in, when an elderly tourist couple told us that we had to go in because it was so good. They were right. The manager was incredibly welcoming and seemed to understand my special needs without making a big deal out of it. He suggested we sit in a quiet corner in case the place got busy. He also gave us some excellent recommendations for places to visit, including the Museum of Childhood and Calton Hill. Calton Hill was a particularly great suggestion, as it wasn't too crowded and offered beautiful views of the city. The food was delicious. It was our first time trying haggis, so we were a bit nervous, but it turned out to be amazing and much better than black pudding! Thank you for having us and for being so kind and hospitable!
We had our first breakfast in Edinburgh at the Luscious Cafe. The staff are pleasant, friendly, courteous and prompt. My Avocado Eggs Benedict was great. My Mom had her first “Scottish Breakfast” complete with Haggis… her first EVER Haggis! She was apprehensive but pleasantly pleased.
Popped in for a late lunch with my partner, ordered panini, coffee and a veggie burger. Food was pretty low quality but served the purpose and the coffee was fine I guess. I was most irked when I came to pay to discover that these 3 items cost £29.40. I recalled the prices being expensive on the menu £10.50 for a panini with a few salad leaves, £13 for a veggie burger) but it didn’t add up to £29.40. There was an issue with payment, card machine wasn’t working so I had to pay cash but when I asked for an itemised bill there was a 10% service charge. This is moderately standard these days but the prices were already high, it was taking me over 5 minutes to pay due to the card machine so I asked to take the service charge off. I was then informed that it’s mandatory and truth be told the text “a 10% service charge will be added to your bill” is in small text on the bottom of the menu. I wasn’t going to argue more so paid up but frankly the prices were already high and at 10% extra I would’ve rather gone elsewhere. Overall food was low quality, service was fine but prices were extortionate.
