The flattened chicken cooked between two stones is excellent. The owner is making sure his guests get the very best experience. Service was prompt and efficient. I would highly recommend making the effort to dine here. Get there early to sit outside.
Former ancien wild boar hunters refuge, next to the big Castel of Torrimpietra, it became a little trattoria where you can eat good typical food for less money. Remarkable the pappardelle al sugo di cinghiale (pasta with boar meat sauce) and the polenta (cornmeal mush). Maurizio the owner is very friendly and a great guest! The reastaurant is simple furnished but in the nice weather days you can sit outside under the trees of the wood and the atmosphere is great...in summer you could even see the fireflyes flying around. We are regular guest there and when we don 't fancy to cook at home, we jump in the car and we go to Maurizio 's trattoria
While driving toward Rome (after a 2 month stay in Tuscany) we pulled off the highway to find lunch. Directed by a few signs we made out way down a dirt road to CASTELLO DI TORRE IN PIETRA and were rewarded to find this beautiful castello, a cantina for wine tasting also selling olive oil, and this TRATTORIA. Soon we were awash in delicious wine, salumi, then a delicious pasta course. The food was equal to the best meals that I experienced in my entire stay. My only regret is that I did not order another course (too full) because the secondi appearing at other tables looked delicious. I still can't believe you can pull off the road, and find quite on accident the best meal of a 2 month stay. If you have any occasion (and a car) to be on the north side of Rome (like near the airport) GO!
I had been looking forward to my trip to Italy rural beauty, beautiful food and delicious wine. La Viola encapsulated that Italian charm in its entirety on the first night of my stay. In an otherwise unknown location somewhat off the beaten track our taxi brought us to a rather simple yet elegant restaurant. We were personally greeted by every single member of staff, handshakes, kisses...you name it. Our wedding party of took our seats to begin what would become a food marathon The starters and second courses kept coming thick and fast...bread and oil, tripe, liver, beans more bread and a continuos flow of red wine. The second wave included more breads, cheeses, meats, olives, homemade fresh pasta and yet more wine...my cheeks were red and my taste buds exhilarated. I was replete yet I knew there was more to come The main course was two huge platters of meat on a salad base. Chicken, Pork, Lamb and Kebab scattered with fried potatoes and dashed with lemon juice it would have been rude not to have at least made a considerable dent in this plethora of delicious food...so we did The service was faultless friendly, attentive and as welcoming as family, it was a pleasure to dine with them and all at an excellent price. per head for an exquisite Italian dining experience. I got back in the taxi as full as a stuffed olive..
Great location in the countryside, friendly staff, excellent food, wonderful wine at good prices! Highly recommend it!!
