The 'service ' was appalling such that after 20-25 minutes of being deliberately IGNORED by the two staff on duty, we decided to leave. If this is American hospitality then you can keep it Monty 's!
As the title of my review states...it's official. Monty’s has gone from what at one time was a great place with great food, to a place where you just go to get drinks. I recommend beer because one can't screw that up. Get glass, pull tap, done. To sum it up, myself and a party of ten others arrived at Monty’s at 7:30 P.M. Order was taken within a reasonable time as well as drink orders. Drinks arrived within an acceptable amount of time however the food is the different story. At about 8:45 we started the inquiry as to where our food was. The manager on duty, blew off my wife's sister. Attempt number two was my mother in law and promptly my father in law. The manager...who was around 23-25 yrs old threw his arms up and had no explanation as to why it has taken 90+ minutes for our order. He blamed it on the kitchen but didn't even make an attempt to rectify the problem. Needless to say we left without eating, and needless to say we will never go there again. Suggestions for Monty’s... 1) If you going to include gratuity on the final bill, have service that is worthy of it. Customers expect a higher level of service when establishments do that. 2) When recruiting managers, find people who are little bit older with a higher maturity level as well as people who have a drive to do a minimal amount of service recovery when there is a service failure. At least humor us into thinking you are trying to fix the problem. I wish I could tell you about the food, well I can say the crackers were great. They had salted and unsalted and they went great with my beer.
Monty's isn't about the food as much as it is about So. Fla living and the laid back lifestyle which is gradually slipping away. You don't go to Monty's for quick service, and although the food is good it's all about smelling the sea air, eating outside and relaxing. I've been going to Monty's for over 35 years, my children ate their first conch fritters there So Fla would not be So Fla without Monty's!!!! Relax Enjoy!!
Parking is free with validation and valet is available. In back of the main restaurant there's a very large patio overlooking many rows of docks. It was Saturday, early evening, and there were many good tables. The straw canopies, fans and breeze made it bearable to eat outside. The kid's chicken baskets and the fried clam strips were very good. The fish in the fish and chips was good but somewhat greasy. The service was good, there was one talented musician, prices are very reasonable, the tip is included and it's a very relaxing place to be; especially if you like boats.
Monty’s Raw Bar!!! Let’s cut through the bull and get to great food and great fun!!! I have personally met Monty. I was not impressed with him at all. However, his management staff has always made Monty’s Raw Bar ... the place to be!!! The happy hour guy always shucks the freshest oysters, clams, and piles up the fresh shrimp on your plate!!! He has been there forever, and it shows. He loves his customers!!! All the bartenders will make you the best drinks, including the dirty surfer, the lampinelli, and the curry hing hong... yee haw!!! Trust me, the table service sucks unless you get the Greek terror or the hottie Russian girl and their sections are almost impossible... because they get slammed!!! Personally, I love Monty’s Raw Bar. It is every bit of Miami attitude without the stuffy tuxedo garbage. Just park somewhere else and don't complain about it.
