Rosso Suite - Frankfurt am Main

I was here sitting on the outside tables facing the fountain. The sound is so relaxing and the air so fresh. The service is fast for serving, but took a while to be able to pay. The croissants were delicious, I had to order a second one

A pity such a great location where you could spend hours sitting at the opera place offers such a bad service...Where to start? You want to sit outside but enter the place to ask for a restroom and get told rudely you are not allowed to sit inside because the service is only outside...So far so bad. Then you sit outside, service comes relatively fast and so do the drinks...but you wait and wait and wait...for a soup...that did not even taste that well (in fact did not taste of much). The cake was better, i.e., ok but nothing extraordinary. Needless to say - no tip.Somehow, the name Käfer does not stand for a lucky find for me anymore (this place is called Cafe Rosso by Gerd Käfer) and I already had a bad (ok, it was much worse than this one) experience at Käfer's at Frankfurt airport...are they somehow related?

Visiting Frankfurt, we had been told that the opera house square was the most attractive, and indeed this turned out to be the case. However, the heavens opened and we dived into Cafe Rosso to wait for the thunder storm to pass. This afforded us a relaxing three-quarters of an hour. Good beer!

Meant to be a simple quick espresso/cappuccino but very frustrating to attract attention of waiters and for them to take our order. Service once given was unfriendly and order was not entirely as ordered either (but following battle to get served we let it go). Granted it is in a prime location that made up for it but doubt we will be back. Pity.

We very much enjoyed a quality and generous lunch here, in a wonderful, relaxing old-world setting. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the service was very efficient. It's not a huge menu, but offers a great selection of refined cafe dishes. The fruit tart was fabulous.We would certainly return.
