The restaurant has taken over the former site of Tommy Cheng's, a familiar Chinese food spot. The transition appeared to be well-prepared before the closure, with a private transfer to a family eager to expand into the Chinese takeout market. One notable change is the packaging; the food that used to come in the standard tin foil and flimsy plastic is now served in a sturdier, well-designed circular base with a clear plastic lid that fits tightly. This upgrade is quite impressive for a Chinese takeout, as most places stick to the typical cheap containers that are prone to leaks. The new packaging is a welcome improvement, as it prevents spills—a common issue with the old tin foil sealing methods, especially when dealing with saucy dishes. However, packaging is not what ultimately matters most; the food is. Upon opening my order of egg rolls, which cost more than usual, I felt like they must have given me the wrong order. The portion sizes were disappointing—similar to opening a box of pizza only to find a half-sized slice. This disappointment extended to the overall quantity; it was clear that I was getting less food for more money. To make matters worse, when I attempted to order my usual lunch special over the phone, I was informed that they don't offer lunch specials on Sundays and instead charge a premium. This peculiar policy was unexpected and left me baffled. I’ve frequented many Chinese restaurants, and it's unusual for one to establish such inconsistent rules that are hard to decipher. After this experience, I realized I wouldn't be making the drive from Oakland to this place anymore, especially since the food doesn't compare favorably to Tommy Cheng’s. Instead, I'll stick to my usual spots. Now, if I ever need Chinese food in a pinch, I’d be more than happy with a nearby option that is actually open, offers clear pricing, and has better food quality.
The food was disappointing and lacked flavor. The portion sizes were smaller than expected for the price. They did offer me a complimentary item without any prompting, but when I tried to use a coupon, I was told I could only choose one or the other. It felt a bit awkward as a customer.
Really so disappointed in this restaurant I expected really good Chinese food unfortunately it was typical fare. Extremely bland and tasteless I ordered wonton soup and Shrimp Lo. The one t in the soup were thick and gummy and the pork inside was minuscule. The shrimp lomein has 8 shrimp that were 1 in diameter. SO disappointing expected more aleast more of that size. When I went to pay for the order she looked up at me and continued to do more work on orders that were coming in so I stood there for 2 minutes until I banged on the window so that she would wait on me and pay for my dinner. I do not recommend.
Tried this place for the first time, and everyone loved it. The food was delicious and everything had a very nice presentation. If anyone has allergies, they were able to accommodate all of our requests, but put me on hold to double check, which I really appreciated. You can tell they really care about their customers, and we'll definitely order from here again sometime soon.
