Contribuer aux commentairesWhat a refreshing change from the rather dull selection at many of Funchal eateries. 3 of us went for lunch and the food was excellent. A light and modern small bistro with friendly helpful staff. Our choices of veggie pizza, prawn risotto and cottage cheese with spinach ravioli was the perfect lunch with a bottle of Portuguese fizz followed by dessert, could not have been better. There was a good menu with Italian and Portuguese options. Highly recommended and we will return.
We discovered the Portaliano restaurant whilst out walking one evening, and what a find. We didn't book but we were quickly offered a table for 2, despite it being very busy Service was quick, polite and efficient The menu is not huge but covers all tastes. I plumped for risotto whilst my wife chose the homemade Prosciutto pizza Both arrived in next to no time and were delicious Only (small) comment, no chocolate or sweet with our coffee ! A must visit restaurant when in Funchal
We walked past this restaurant in the morning when it was closed but liked the look of the menu. We looked the restaurant up on trip advisor and were impressed by the reviews. We went back at about 7 pm that evening and as it was early the restaurant was empty. The waiter took us through the menu and we went with his recommendations. We shared a starter of prawns in garlic butter with home made bread. My husband then had a chicken and mushroom risotto, and I had ossobucco with gnocchi. Both meals were excellent and the gnocchi was one of the best I have ever eaten. I finished my meal with a tiramissu, my husband had a coffee. The meal was accompanied by a local rose wine and water. The total price came to fifty eight euros. We highly recommend this restaurant for its excellent service and delicious food.
We visited this restaurant right in the main area of Funchal near the cathedral when it opened in May 2017. Decided to return to see how it was. Our May experience was excellent. So was this visit. A mixture of Italian and Portuguese cooking. Bright, trendy quite Clapham ish !! Nice staff. We both had steak which was excellent. The wine was the best Douro white I have tasted in Madeira. Portuguese pudding was great. We rate it and will come back again. Fair price.
At Portaliano the food was cooked adequately. But the fusion flavours were mixed in bad ways that did not work. E.g.the gyoza with smoked sausage and jam. Other dishes like the meatballs in white sauce with raisins and nuts ! were bland and tasteless. The chef really needs to rethink the combinations. The pizza was okay but a little boring.
