The room shook to the slightest movement. A wicker chair was the only furniture, but it got in the way of our suitcases. Tricky 15cm wide steps led up to the room. The tiny bathroom was across a gravel driveway to the locked house, along an L-shaped corridor and up a staircase. Imagine access in the middle of the night during rain. There was a lounge with a self-service bar and an honesty box. Lots of snack items were available for purchase. A souvenir tea towel was also available. We felt the commercial aspect annoying. Good advice was given about Wainwright's Coast to Coast hike to Shap. Unsavoury remarks were made about a nearby pub. Rooms: 1 Service: 3 Location: 4 Hotel highlights: Quiet

Where do I start... The hosts. They are the nicest people you could meet, and I don't mean they make an effort I mean they become your friends, and this is apparent by the way the talk to you and in my apinion they become friends. The food. Unfortunately we didn't get to eat in the evening here but we dit get to experience the breakfast, yes an experience and one that you don't want to miss. I thought at first the cooked breakfast being 5 items was a bit small but it was very good and filling, the toast and jam selection which is readily availible to buy and take home with you is amazing, locally made it is some of the best tasting jam I've had in a while. We did have a baguette the first evening and it certainly did the job. The acomidation. Well, we had the pleasure of the herdy hut, yep that's exactly what it is, a hut on wheels, a shepherd's hut to be exact and it was perfect. We had 2 night away for our 21st wedding anniversary and being leaders in scouting it was right up our ally, the beds was very comfortable and a kettle and hairdryer was a nice touch. The best part of the hut was the red squirrel the visited many times of the day lituraly a meter or 2 away from the day, David pointed him out when we first arrived but to honest he didn't need too, such a happy and carefree little chap just sitting and eating his nuts. The bars. A mand bar in the garden and ab honesty bar in the house was the icing on the cake for me, how often do you get to pull your pint!! The selection of local gins went down like ice-cream with the better half and the local brewed beers were amazing, I don't normaly drink that much whem going away but the standard of the lacal beers was that good it would have been rood not too. All I. All I would recommend this place to any one, weather you are hiking through for the night, a coue of days of longer this ace is the one!! We are looking for free time just so wee can return, it is a home from home and a break from the norm and a must for anyone wanting to visit the lakes. Thank you so much for the stay we will be back. Rooms: Very well presented and very clean. Walkability: A lesurlsy walk to Glenridding or a short hop to the white lion pub (not that you would want to leave the o site bar) Food drinks: The food and drink are 5 star and prepared with care.
