The Thirsty Cactus - Hamilton

Interesting restaurant in an old store front with Mexican decor and good sized outdoor patio. Not much on the menu by way of choice if you are not a fan of Mexican food. Very clean and staff are friendly, although our server was lacking in his knowledge of Mexican food but asked an associate for advice.

Our first visit in March 2016 was really enjoyable. We are not able to get a Mexican fix anymore in Burlington so while in the neighbourhood on Sunday we dropped in for an early lunch. I'm happy to see that the tacky has been taken out of the décor, while keeping the period architectural detail. It makes the business look more professional. Terrific waiter, terrific atmosphere, terrific food, terrific value. As for the washrooms - there's only so much you can do in a building this old. Beautiful patio. Try it. You'll like it.

We went to the Thirsty Cactus while in Dundas on an Ontario roundtrip and I was a little hesitant due to the mixed reviews, especially regarding the food and the washrooms.However, we found the menu so appetizing we just had to try it and we were not disappointed – very tasty Mexican dishes! The food is all very fresh, nice spice to all of the items and the cocktails are great. We also liked the patio. We went there on two occasions and once - I have to admit - the washrooms needed some cleaning (but only because another customer made a mess…). Maybe check them more often?I also recommend to the restaurant to change the free nacho starter as the processed cheese sauce topping seems cheap – maybe rather some of your great salsa instead? Your food is so good, you don’t have to lower the expectations with a mediocre starter! ;)

We were on our way to a tour elsewhere and wanted to have a meal nearby. First choice was closed due to a gas leak, but the owner recommended the Thirsty Cactus Cantina, and I am glad he did! When we entered we were seated immediately, and the feel of the place felt like a Mexican Cantina. Very friendly staff, and fast service too! My adult daughter ordered a 6oz New York Striploin (Medium Well), a Navajo Spud Dish, and a Tumbleweed Salad. I ordered a 6oz New York Striploin (Medium Well), Mexi Fries, and a Chili Roasted Corn Dish. Everything was excellent including their coffee. Stir the Chili Roasted Corn before eating, the flavour needs to be stirred.The reason for four, instead of five out of five was the men's washroom there was water all over the floor, it needed some TLC!I will return when back in the area!

Excellent server, great job on the restroom reno, Good Burritos and Salad, But a 3.00 up charge for Guac. on a 15$ Burrito!?
