We went late on a Friday afternoon, and due to the ab-hour they were not busy. suddenly they sat up. we were the only customers there all the time. downstairs it seemed more alive and I think we would have liked that better. we both have a beer we liked. husband got the Irish dip with fries while I got clam chowder, collar and smoked gouda mac and cheese. the Irish dip needed the jus, as husband said, it was super dry. my clam chowder was tasty. I usually have to add hot sauce to the chowder, but she didn't need it. collards were full of taste, but unfortunately the mac and the cheese was not what I had in the past. it was very easy on cheese sauce. tried like milky makkaroni with a small cheese top, none of them was enough to recognize any kind of smoked taste.
My wife and I have been here for ten years. We love the atmosphere of the bar below. Last night we stopped and ordered a basket of Fritten as an appetizer, $12. Then I ordered a beer that came in 10 ounces. Guinness glass. I was like Waf? The bartender assured me it was a pint. I'm old enough to remember when a pint was 16 ounces. but have accepted 12 ounces as the norm. $7 for 10 ounces. pouring is totally b.s.
I have not found any Irish pub tariff in this region, which can in any way compare with what is offered by M'coul. In particular, the Lammeintopf together with the Banger-Mash are absolute winners, quality dishes comparable to what you find at serious pubs on the island itself. There are a number of less traditional items on the menu, of which I have tried nothing, but all the pub standards I had were delicious. This is an extremely comfortable place, welcoming and relaxed. The employees pretended they really had a fucking experience. I sat in my first visit with some regulars, but I felt as friendly as she was. When returning, especially when things are a bit slow, I found the staff to be warm, fun and entertainment that makes for a fun way to enjoy a pint or two. Seven dollars for a glass of black stuff (Guinness) or for most other offers on tap seems a bit exaggerated. In one example, I also experienced a bartender who did not understand the process of casting Guinness, and so my beers were served without a real foam head. Luckily, in other cases, I have found more powerful employees, and my glasses have really tasted. The feeling and eating are right for the pub environment, and if I lived closer, I'm pretty sure I would be here regularly, even if prices are above average.
What can I say M'Couls is a typical Irish Pub with an amazing patio, roof top bar, and awesome food. We tried the Irish eggrolls, lamb stew, fish and chips, shepherds pie and the isrish dip. Everything was sooooo good. The service was friendly and we loved the decor as well. We will be back to try brunch!
