Had to flag the bartender down multiple times (server was MIA) to get refills and then she was rude when we asked about desserts at 930 when they close at 10. Also we had 4 glasses of the same wine yet they wouldn’t let us do bottle price even though they offer a bottle of it? Just a weird experience. Not the service they used to provide but good food. Green and Cheese pie spanokopita was elevated and definitely the highlight. Polpo was well done and my wife gave the Briam highest score. Gyro had a beautiful presentation but I think I will try some other items when I visit next time..... to accompany the Spanokopita.
Went to Helen on a beautiful Friday afternoon just past lunch hour. To say I was blown away was an understatement. This place is a gem! We moved here from Los Angeles and this place has Los Feliz vibes . Also feels a lot like a NYC Village spot. Very quaint spot tucked in a little shopping district . Very low key , nicely appointed with a few tables outdoors. The service was outstanding, and I opted for two appies. Ordered the grilled feta and the charred octopus. Both were exquisite! From there , opted for the chicken skewers on pita with fries and the lamb meatballs. Perfectly prepared. So tasty. To finish , be sure to order the bak lava sundae. O M G !!! This place is phenomenal. The only slight knock is the lack of a full bar. Otherwise it doesn't get any better. Go there !!
There were some hits, but a bunch of misses. The feta chicken was delicious. We also really enjoyed the Greek fries. The Village salad, which I've had on previous visits, was not very fresh. The tomatoes were a little soggy. The meatballs were pretty good. For a Greek place, I was underwhelmed with the baklava. The worst part of the meal was the service. It appeared that therr was only one waitress for the whole front section, if not the entire restaurant. One time we waited 20 minutes for our server to order more food and it took forever to get the bill. Also, when I look, despite being there, during happy hour, we were not given happy hour pricing for our wine. This was very sketchy and led me to deduct one extra star.
Meatball and artesian bread were good. Really enjoyed the sangria. Great atmosphere and service. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $10–20 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Pecan Baklava
