Food was excellent and cheaper than anything else on the island. I had the Gaimbap (vegan, with tofu) and my friend had the Bi-Bims-Bap (vegetarian – it is vegan without the egg). Veganuary
I think the neighbors told us they were reopening in September.
Yong's Kal- Bi has TONS from vegan options and everything I've tried is delicious! Let them know that you are vegan when you order, so leave the egg that comes in some dishes. I always get the vegan pancakes of the day and the vegan bibimbop. I also have the spicy rice cakes that are delicious! Sidenote, I live in Hilo and drove to Waimea (the ride takes over an hour) just to go to Yong, it's so good!
We enjoyed Bibimbap (rice) and Bibim noodles. A rare treat, they have v mung bean pancakes! Gim bop (Korean version of Sushi) was best. They also had a fresh bar from sides and the staff knew about the vegans. The only minus points were not v kimchi and no v mandu (pumps).
I wasn't sure if we were going to like this place but thought we would give it a try and I am so glad that we did! There are tons of vegan options and the menu makes it really easy to determine what your options are. Also the lady who helped us (I'm assuming she is the owner's vegan wife) was so sweet and helpful. We ordered a ton of food and all of it was so refreshing and light. We had leftovers and enjoyed them for multiple days. The vegan pancakes are a must! The side options were all really delicious too (we had cabbage, corn, seaweed, potatoes). I liked their food so much I am hoping I can find something comparable near me in Sacramento, CA.
