Lunch alone. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I don't understand the negative comments as if I wasn't able to buy beer by the pint. People should understand that they are NOT in the UK and appreciate real efforts. I ordered fish and chips and was surprised to see fish and cancers. However, the cramps were made at home and were a delicious alternative. I have to make two smaller comments. The dough on the fish was pretty sharp. I suspect some chilis have been added. I also suggest that someone revises the recipe for Tartare sauce. I love Tartare Sauce, but I didn't like what I got. I stress that these are subjective observations and I will definitely go back for the kind welcome.
At 11 a.m. everything else in the neighborhood was closed. Place looks a bit dodgy but beggars can't be voters, I think. We ordered some burgers that were prepared for a while, but I must say they were excellent.
We went here a couple of evenings during our stay in Bogota. First and foremost, we decided to check them out because we found out that they had Aspall Cider available (in the bottle). The waitresses were very friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was...quite pleasant. We tried the nachos, the pan fried fish, and the burger. They were all pretty good. They had a good beer selection as well, and several imports. Glad we came across this pub! Make sure to check it out if you're in the mood for an English pub in Bogota.
The Red Lion is a very good option for a pub just a block of the posh and busy Parque 93. I've been to the pub several times and it fits the bill for beers, semi-authentic atmosphere, and decent pub fare. There are many British Pubs in Bogota, none of which would please an Englishman, but this one certainly is good enough to please a more relaxed Scot. This is definitely a better bet than the over-hyped Bogota Beer company or London Calling. Both of which ARE atrocious. The Red Lion has a good number of European Beers, though in fairness, they should make some more effort to put some British Beers on the menu. Food is pub fare and usually tastes fresh and good. Staff has always been friendly and attentive. It's a solid bet for the area to hang out, relax and enjoy a few beers with friends. Unless your upper lip is a bit too stiff.
