Everything was wonderful! We spent a few hours with friends, were well looked after, and our server, Mataya, was excellent. She has a great attitude, explains things well, has often checked us, not rushed and was very pleasant!
The whole experience was great. Our waiter did a good job and was very helpful when it came to my food restrictions. The menu actually refers to GF, vegan and vegetarian options. I literally can't remember the last time I was able to eat fried catfish (I'm gluten-free) and it was soooo amazingly good! We ordered two different bottles of wine for our group and they were both very good. I look forward to returning!
We enjoyed our dinner at Lark A Fare this past Sunday. We had several members of our party who are elderly, so it was nice that there were lower seats available and not all hi tops with backless stools. The chairs are very hard and not really comfy, however. The service was excellent and the food was also very good. I had the meatloaf, which was very tasty and tender. The burgers looked fantastic. The Chicken Dumplings was tasty, but the dumpling seemed like a leftover biscuit from brunch a little dry and not really a dumpling. All in all, my criticisms are minor and we enjoyed it.
We had made a reservation for 4 for an early dinner after the KU vs W. Virginia game. As we arrived at the host stand at 6:30, the bar and front dining areas were pretty busy and kind of loud. Fortunately, we were seated in the quieter, more intimate dining room in the back, adjacent to the hotel. Our out-of-town guests and my husband were excited to try a new Lawrence restaurant. I had only been there for drinks and appetizers a couple of times, so I was ready to check out the broader dinner menu myself. My husband was dining vegan and enjoyed the stuffed sweet potato entree. The rest of us ordered the meatloaf entree, which was really delicious and satisfying (the crispy texture from the flattop grill gave it a nice crunch), along with lots of garlicky sautéed green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy (which were served less than warm, unfortunately, but tasted great). Two of us shared a spectacular side salad (Winter Panzanella Salad...plenty for two) and the stuffed sweet potato as an extra side for the three of us eating meatloaf to share. We brought two bottles of wine from home to enjoy with our meal, with a modest corkage fee. We had a warm and capable waitress who took great care of us, but as the back dining room started filling up with additional and larger parties, she got busy and forgot to deliver the extra glaze or bbq sauce for our meatloaf and keep our water glasses filled. On a busy night after a home game, it would have been helpful to maybe have a busser or manager backing up the wait staff, checking on water glasses, any missing items. These slight hiccups, however, didn’t diminish our overall dining experience. We had a wonderful dinner and look forward to returning soon and exploring the menu!
