Back visiting Lago Maggiore after a while, looking forward to a good pizza, my wife looking forward to her fritto misto. We'd been to this restaurant many times before, and expectations were high. Unfortunately they were not met. The service has fallen dramatically; the staff seemed much more interested in passing friends and a football match on the TV; we were left alone, and were not even offered coffee. The food? Well that was OK I suppose, nothing special; but the whole experience was ruined by the staff and their lack of service.
We always visit the Italian Lakes in the October half term; this means we arrive as most places are closing down already closed. This actually proves to be a bonus: those places still open have local patronage always a good sign ! As is often the case around Lago Maggiore, a litre carafe of superb house wine is Euros 10. The driver's choice of an eighth of a litre is Euros 2.00 ! The menu is bi lingual. The pizzas are cooked in the dining room, and our visit was punctuated by regular orders from locals. We had a superb margherita pizza (Euros 7) and 51 mussels (all opened) for Euros 10. Superb value. N.B. Cover charge is 4 Euros, which for some is contentious. A superb tiramisu was 4 Euros. Lovely, friendly, efficient service.
Convenient parking, friendly and helpful staff, goose pizzas and fish even better
Fresh pasta with seafood: excellent and plentiful, as well as pizza, absolutely to try. very kind staff and compliance with covid prescriptions.
