Contribuer aux commentairesKC Yelpers, I'm actually very upset at myself. Upset that fact that I've driven by Renee Kelly's Harvest for over 3yrs and just finally had dinner there this week. What was I thinking? Atmosphere: It's a restaurant in a restored castle, should I say more? Service: Most likely one of the best service I've received in KC, in the very long time. Juan was our server, super professional and informative. Last time I've had service this good, I was at Culinary Art Institute (NY) where servers were being graded so their A-game had to be on point. The Food: I would simply say you'll not likely going to have a bad meal here. The dishes I ordered were specials of the day, which are Duroc Pork Chop and Potato/Leek puree soup (most likely the best soup I've had at any restaurant). Price was very reasonable. Oh, they source most if not all of their ingredients from local responsible farms. They even listed their farming partners on the board. Drinks: The drinks I've tried were infused and puree cocktail. It's different, but not my favorite. Mostly likely would just order wine next time with my meal. They have a nice wine selection and even a wine tasting room for 15 in the basement. This place ranks up their with Novel KC Restaurant in my book. I highly recommend you checking this place out. This is a nice hidden gem so Great, words will start spreading and getting a reservation will be harder in the future. Oh well. Cheers...
Sunday brunch in a castle? Don 't mind if I do! The main highlight of this dining experience is the setting: it 's a beautiful castle fashioned into a restaurant with an elegant, intimate dining room. The employees are all very friendly, and the complimentary beignets before brunch were a lovely surprise. The food itself wasn 't as memorable, but enjoyable nonetheless. I was a tad disappointed when my side of seasonal fresh fruit ended up being a few slices of apples and oranges, but my expectations may have just been high. The seasoned breakfast potatoes were excellent (although I wish they gave more) and my friend 's french toast was deliciously decadent. Our Sunday morning here was one well-spent, and Renee Kelly 's Harvest is worth a visit to experience the magic of feeling like royalty in a Kansas castle. P.S. Apparently Renee Kelly was a contestant on Top Chef! Pretty cool!
This place was known to me as the castle restaurant and that was exactly what it was. I met with 8 other KC Foodies here for dinner at 7pm on a Saturday. There was parking in the front of the castle (I think only two spots right in front), on the side of the castle, and a separate parking lot in the back. I came in from the back entrance and saw there were tables outside; however, it was a slightly chilly and windy day so nobody was outside. We were all dressed up (I was in a full suit) but it actually suited this place well. Other people at the other tables were dressed up as well (not full suits though). I don 't know the official dress code here but dress up just to be safe. We had a large round table near the front of the restaurant and it actually fit all 9 of us there perfectly. The menu had a variety selection from fish to steak to chicken to salads. I liked it when the menu online was the same as in the restaurant. I was debating whether to order the scotch filet or the chicken breast but decided on the scotch filet. There were items not on the menu that our waitress, Carmen, described to us. There were a bunch of appetizers we ordered to share with the group like crispy risotto, the truffle salted house cottage fries, the chef 's board, the pork belly, and the rabbit loin. The crispy risotto was okay, the truffle salted house cottage fries were good, the chef 's board had a variety of meats and cheeses which was nothing special to me and the pork belly was okay. I didn 't try the rabbit loin. The bread was soft and I thought it was home made but I don 't remember. The scotch filet was delicious even though part of the steak was more medium rare than medium. Everything else was medium like I requested. I tried the chicken breast and that was delicious as well. The branzini was not bad but not something I would order. I was the last one to finish because I pretty much had a piece of almost everybody 's food on my plate not to mention I took pictures of everybody 's food first. For dessert, we ordered every thing on the menu which consisted of S 'mores, Chocolate cake, Cheesecake, Apple pie, and Carrot cake. The ones I liked were the Apple pie and the S 'mores followed by the carrot cake, chocolate cake and cheesecake. I didn 't really like the cheese cake and the chocolate cake was very chocolate-ty in my opinion. Everything else tasted good to me. I thought the food was good here and an interesting venue for a restaurant. I wouldn 't mind coming back here to try their brunch/lunch or any other items on the dinner menu.
What a magical place to dine at! It's nice to have a castle near by to eat at instead of going all the way to Disney World lol Just by driving up to the restaurant was already a site to see! As we entered I was even more fascinated about the decor and the stone walls. Felt like a medieval princess in her castle. Just can't get over how Disney Movie-esque the atmosphere is. I recently dined at Cinderella's Castle in Disney World, so nice to have that kind of experience here, well without the Disney branding lol but the magic is nonetheless still here. Alright enough about the atmosphere and all my feelings LOL time to review the food. We came for Sunday brunch and we were not disappointed! For appetizers we were served complimentary beignets. They were served with jame and lightly sprinkled with sugar. They were fresh outta the oven and boy were they delicious! Nice crisp on the outside and moist soft in the inside! Not too sweet and pairs perfectly with the caramel fused jam. For the main course, I got the Pretty Darn Good Breakfast: two poached eggs on a herb biscuit with crispy pancetta, hollandaise served with cottage fries. They have duck eggs daily, so I had it substituted with the regular eggs. Omg since all their ingredients are farm to table...everything was fresh! The eggs were sooooooo good! I love how much bigger they are and richer taste in the yolk. They poached them quite perfectly! The pork belly slices that came with the dish was seasoned perfectly and fried to a crisp! One thing that we all were surprised about were the blue potatoes! They stated that they got them from a local farm! So now I have a new obsession over poached duck eggs and blue potatoes! Will definitely come back for dinner! They said that they have special duck egg creme brulee on some days! Might come back for restaurant week too! Ugh love this magical place!
My wife had been trying to find a time for us to check out Harvest for months. One of the things that intrigued us what the farm-to-table emphasis. We finally were able to make a reservation for June 11, 2015. The decor is very nice. The old Caenen Castle is used as a nice frame from which to create a casual upscale dining atmosphere. Given the heat of the day, we chose to eat indoors but there is outdoor seating. We both chose the sweet and simple mixed greens salad, and it is just what it says. A solid start to our dinner. For the entree, I chose the sea bass 'sustainable catch of the day ' while my wife chose another fish option: the wrapped branzini with jade rice, chamomile cream, fennel, orange and radish salad. Both were excellent! To cap it off, we both chose the strawberry shortcake for dessert. I have to say this was the only missed note with our meal. The portion was perfect, but they use a pound cake instead of a lighter shortcake and the strawberries were a little puny and lacking from what we were expecting. But, that is the potential risk of getting locally grown ingredients which rely on what is in season and the farmer/supplier. The service was very good. The prices are on the higher side, so we will probably reserve this place as a 'special occasions ' option for a meal. However, we enjoyed it and will definitely return. Next time, we 'd like to try their brunch.
