Unfortunately, the service was so bad that it overshadowed the good parts specifically just because it went past an inconvenience and into a legitimate logistics issue of us being forced to stay way longer than we planned to stay even after asking for our check several times. I met with some coworkers and it was payday, haha! I never got my second margarita that I ordered and drinks were taking at least 30 minutes for anyone who did get theirs. My water was never refilled. It seemed like our waiter just disappeared. It was so awkward because what seemed to be a manager came around and said something like “yall should order some shots” being congenial but we were all still waiting on our drinks we had ordered 30 minutes prior. We would have spent way more in drinks if we would have just been able to order them. We all also ordered food. Idk what the situation was. But it was stressful bc one of the people with us was trying to leave to get home to the babysitter and we waited I am not exaggerating well over 30 minutes but not quite a whole hour for our check after waiting 30 minutes each time for our food and our drinks. It was awkward bc we were just sitting there for like an hour and a half without even water to sip on despite reaching out to several staff. My wife had to go get someone and bring them back with her for them to begin to process our checks and even after she got someone it was not quick to check out. We had told the waiter at the beginning how our party was split for the check but at the end a senior staff had to come and ask everyone what they ordered and we had to explain to him that we never got drinks they were trying to charge for. He was great, didn’t argue with us or anything or try to charge us for anything we did didn’t get but it was awkward so that’s why I’m warning people. Luckily the company was good and so was the view! I hope they get their staffing issue sorted because the food and drinks and atmosphere are unmatched here in town! I would have been happy to order using a QR code menu and was happy that when they did bring the receipt around, I was able to pay without having to wait on anyone to come back for my card. I just wanted to write the review because it was such a strange experience that I think management could use to hear about just so they can be on top of things. I’m sure there was some kind of misunderstanding or miscommunication that explains all of it. My biggest suggestion is just don’t visit here if you can’t go with the flow and wait for your stuff as long as you have to. The staff were all perfectly courteous and our orders were correct. It was just that weird issue of taking a long time at first and then being ghosted about halfway through with no one ever getting their second drinks or their checks without having to physically go find someone. Picture of the view to show why I hope they really get things settled because I hope this place stays successful and open!
Just had the worst meal at La Mariposa ever!! I’ve been to this establishment and the Lyons location several times and have had decent food and service up until now. The waitress appeared to be untrained Considering the multiple mistakes she made on our food orders throughout the evening. The food was extremely subpar to put it nicely…. The Carne Asada tacos tasted like I was chewing on a tennis shoe And everything else was just mediocre. Super disappointed with the service and the overall management (who came to the table and was extremely combative and disinterested) of our experience this evening.
Spectacularly Awful!!! Where to begin? Well, to start with, this was not our first visit. We had dined there once the month before, but it was shortly after this new location had first opened, so we cut them a lot of slack. But I do clearly remember from that experience that it was the worst margarita I've ever tasted, and the tacos were mediocre. My wife's chardonnay was an awful off brand, but she drank it and we were more charmed by the outdoor ambience patio) than anything else. So last night, on a beautiful sunny Friday evening, we decided to go back. BIG MISTAKE. Once again, I ordered a Cadillac Margarita. I could not detect a drop of tequila in it, much less the gran marnier float, and it tasted like straight margarita mix the cheap kind and loaded with a ton of sugar. I've had virgin margaritas that tasted much better. My wife ordered chardonnay, and not only was it the same off brand swill, but it smelled and tasted like it was from a bottle that had been uncorked and put away 1/4 full over a month ago without refrigeration. Seriously it was that bad. It tasted like poison, and was undrinkable. At this point, our food had not arrived, so a very nice and well intentioned manager on duty stopped by to check on us. We were honest and told her about our drinks. To her credit, she tried. She returned with a shot of tequila horrible, rot gut stuff, though), and a beer to replace the chardonnay. The tequila showed up on the bill later, though, and I had to demand for it to be taken off $7.50 for a tiny shot). Now we come to the food. I ordered steak and shrimp fajitas, and my wife ordered three assorted tacos. The tacos were just okay mediocre like the first time, but my fajitas were just plain pathetic. Fajitas should be cooked in a cast iron skillet, similar to the tray on which they are served. The onions and peppers should be caramelized and full of flavor, and the beef should be marinated skirt steak that is seared on the outside, succulent, tender, and still pink in the center. In this case, the onions and peppers were barely cooked at all, and the grey chunks of beef were dry, overcooked, tough and chewy. What little flavor it had was similar to the taste of liver, and if I had to guess as a former meat cutter), I'd say it was cut from round steak. The shrimp were tiny and also flavorless. The refried beans were also horrible. Obviously, the chef here has no idea how to cook anything that resembles decent Mexican food I can make much better here at home, and quite frankly, would rather eat at Taco Bell across the street. Oh and that brings me to the prices. The entrees there are $20 and up $22 for my plate), and the margarita was $12. This place is horrendously overpriced, but they go on the cheap for everything including their wine and liquor. It's one thing to charge a premium for quality food, but that's not what you'll get here. Check out the menu for yourself and make up your own mind. As for the ambiance, there is a lot of street noise, which is to be expected. Most irritating was the loud, blaring techno pop music which made it difficult to have a conversation, and killed whatever good vibe could have been there. This is a gorgeous restaurant, but knowing that La Mariposa is a chain dashes any hopes that they will get new management and a chef who understands how to make quality Sonoran or Sinaloan Mexican food not to mention a decent margarita. I will happily stick with 3 Margaritas or Hacienda Jalisco in Firestone from now on.
I had a wonderful experience! The energy/vibe was very inviting. The food was absolutely delicious and the music was entertaining. Definitely a regular spot I will be attending!
Had a wonderful company party on the rooftop. Great time. Great food. Great atmosphere.
