TA reviews on Tandoori Cottage were positive so we booked on a Saturday evening. Just as well. All tables were reserved but fortunately we were early diners. We started with Samosa & Roti bread to share. Food delivery was slow but we were unhurried. Mains of butter chicken & Saaghost were extremely slow & we were glad we arrived early as by now all tables were full & service by the 3 serving staff who were also assisting in the kitchen was a problem for the latter arrivals. The restaurant is extremely popular for takeaway & we observed that just as many dishes were for takeaway as those served in the restaurant. However the food quality was excellent & we would return to try a couple of other dishes we observed on the night but probably not on a Saturday. Several larger groups contributed to a high noise level. Certainly worth a visit if you are into Indian food
6 of us ate here and it was fantastic. Everything was fresh and delicious. We had an absolute feast and it worked out to be about $20 a head. BYO as well. Plenty of choice for the vegan in the group
We don't eat in the restaurant, however we do get take away. We have been doing this for approx 10 years. The food is excellent, butter chicken a bit hot is great and the plain Nan bread is also excellent, rice is good, (tend to get the plain). The pakoras are also great and the raita is good, I always ask for a larger tub and they give it to me at no extra charge. Kitchen is spotless and the staff are very clean. and the Chef always says hello to me. I don't know if he knows me or just friendly. Phone order early and leave plenty of time.We have moved away from the area and still go there to get the take away! We also don't eat at other Indian places as we are normally not happy.
This place is not posh. It is also a little cold. But I couldn't recommend any other Indian in Melbourne, or anywhere outside of India. It is delicious, home cooked, full flavoured heaven. You can't go past the butter chicken or the cheese AND garlic nann :)
Have visited many Indian restaurants in Melbourne but we keep coming back to Tandoori Cottage. Tandoori platter & cheese naan are our favourite . ????????
