Long ago? ve was there and thought we would stop on the way to home from Hartford. we had to ask for menus and then we had to ask for our eating cute. not impressed by eating or service. the service was very attentive. After we asked if we like dessert, we said no. They typically bring the leak at this point. after more than 10 minutes (what does not work at all) we had to ask someone else to find our server to get our review despite eye contact with our server.
A surly server, an extremely limited menu, and food that was on average, but in the direction of moderate. That was our first visit and it will be our last. Our server did not ask if we wanted to order a drink, treated us as if we were stupid for trying to order a flatbread appetizer, we did not say in a tone that implicit that we should know better, and showed a total contempt for providing any level of customer service. The fish and chips were best on average. The chicken sandwich was tender, but not seasoned, and the Mac and the cheese were both pepper (black pepper) and completely low in salt. And speaking of salt, it is not a good sign if the salt in the shaker on the table is a solid mass, and it is even worse if the salt from the next table is in the same state. A star is a fair assessment. It was not the worst, but very far away, even on average to be one of the best.
That was only my second time here. Both times were very good. The waiters were pleasant, patient and friendly. The food was excellent. The ambience is commendable as the tavern dates back to 1770.
Though very good, it was a very small appetizer (calamari) don't even think of sharing unless you want to fight for it! The plate was majority garnish. Buffalo Mac n cheese in name only, grilled checked with hot sauce plopped on top of the thin mac n cheese. Good beer selection but prices were not indicative of portions, don't expect to take anything home.
