Since we were in the Midwest we figured it to be a good choice for a nice upscale dinner. Well... the service was okay at best. The steak was the worst! And we were paying top dollar for Marshalltown. We all ordered NY Strip cooked medium. Mine was medium well, the worst part was that it was maybe 1 inch thick and full of fat and loaded with grizzle. Not at all what we expected. It was extremely disappointing! Everyone knows a true well made NY Strip steak should be 2 inches thick and little to no grizzle. The steaks were 40 percent grizzle. I can say they had good flavor but that's it. The ambiance was not really as nice once you took a look around. Certainly not nice enough for a restaurant charging $40-$50 for steak.
We stayed at the hotel which was clean, comfortable and quiet. The room was huge and very nicely appointed. Bed was comfortable and it was nice to have a recliner chair in the room. Delicious, fresh breakfast in a homey atmosphere! Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Romantic, Quiet

Had lunch here today, what a welcome treat! Ordered the most delicious Reuben with potato salad and iced tea. The staff were so attentive which I greatly appreciated. The proprietor even brought me a fresh watermelon slice. With our first Raigbrai experience the week has been kind of rough. Thank you for the extra care today, it was needed. If the hotel was available we would stay but it’s fully booked.
