It’s an area where there are also many Roman Catholic seminaries and convents. The town is enjoying an impressive growth spurt as more people move from the city to the countryside either as a weekend vacation destination or as an acceptable option for commutes to nearer parts of Medellin or to Rio Negro where the airport is located. Candilejas is a restaurant on the central square, and offers a wide menu of traditional dishes. We ordered the empanadas, patacones with hogao and guacamole, pan de queso, a breaded and fried fish fillet and a butterflied double fillet of locally caught trout cooked on a grill. All was wonderfully cooked, and quickly presented to the table by a friendly and very attentive wait staff. Most of the drinks were local sodas, or beer, or Aguardiente, the local anise flavored “fire water,” literally. The espresso had a deep, rich flavor and the fudge cake which caught our eye as soon as we entered, was presented with a rich, but not too sweet pudding like fudge icing dripping slightly down the sides, and thin caramel middle between the two cakes. It was thoroughly delicious and decadent. There were four of us and we all enjoyed our meals. If you’re in Medellin, take the opportunity to find your way to La Ceja and if you do, enjoy the newly remodeled (still in construction) central square, the quaint town, the local artisans, and definitely the wonderful food at Candilejas! Happy travels!
(In English) The Candilejas Restaurant is the restaurant that I frequent the most. I usually eat lunch at Candilejas 2 -3 times per week. I have tried many restaurants in La Ceja and I always return to Candilejas because of the quality and price of the food, and the excellent service. It is always filled with local residents who know where is good food at a good price.
Although the restaurant is attached to a mall, the food is SPECTACULAR!!! The food is an eclectic mix of many types of food, but all with a Colombian flair.
Very bad service, almost minutes to wait for a waiter and take the order. is told to the other waiters and say they are busy at other tables
