Delicious Balti chicken dish and yummy mango lassi. The flavours were authentic and not watered down. Service was also friendly and efficient.
My husband has been eating from Shiv for a long time. He loves some of the curries, especially Balti Chicken, but their naan or roti is very chewy even though its made fresh i believe. You can go for curries but not roti. We have also ordered chicken biryani from here, but its a bir on the sweet side. I am sure ny husband will go for curries when he isnt in a mood to drive far.
We went to Shiv to pick up some dishes to add to a Diwali feast last night. I ordered butter chicken, tandoori chicken and a couple of chicken tikkas (bring me all the poultry). There was a few little containers of mint sauce thrown into the bag and there was sure a lot of heat packed into them. The tell tale red flecks should have been the indication of some sort of spices in what I had assumed was a cooling yoghurt based sauce. Too hot for me. Also too hot for me was the tikka. Luckily their was a raita on the table to temper the mouth burning sensation. I sampled the butter chicken too which had an interesting sauce. Not anywhere near as creamy as I’m used to (I like to tell myself it was a healthy butter chicken) with quite a strong tomatoey flavour which I actually quite enjoyed. It appeared to be a family run operation doing mostly takeaway but there is some seating available. Not a bad little spot but I personally prefer the milder options down the road
The restaurant offers extremely authentic cuisine, possibly due to the chef's international training. This place may not be flashy for a first date, but it definitely delivers top quality North Indian dishes. The use of fresh herbs ensures that there is no after-dining discomfort often caused by cheap spices. My wife and I dine out regularly, especially for Indian food, and we were impressed with the spinach pakoras and curries. The only hiccup was when they added ghee or butter to our naan despite our request for it to be dry, but we didn't mind much. The naan bread was a bit flat for our liking, as we prefer it fluffy. Despite the small size and unremarkable atmosphere of the restaurant, the polite waitress and delicious food make it worth a visit. It's a great option for takeout as well.
