Sadly nothing has changed in the intervening years. Terrible? No. Lacklustre? Definitely. We went with friends on a Sunday evening in November when choices in Mijas are limited. We might have been better to stay in and cooked instead. To paraphrase a famous football quote our dining experience started poorly and then fell away. I was excited to see her grenache rioja on the wine list [I'm a bit of a wine anorak sorry]. Tempranillo is of course the normal rioja grape but they do grow some grenache in that region too, so this seemed like a really interesting bottle to try. When it was brought to the table the label clearly said tempranillo though. I queried this with the waiter who took it away and then came back to assure me that indeed this tempranillo was a grenache. Sometimes its not worth the argument is it? So we accepted the bottle which was actually not bad at all if a little pricey at 24 euros. But this exchange was a sign of waitering incompetence yet to come like our main courses brought while we were still nowhere near finished on our starters; and having to go to the till at the end of the meal to pay based on a computer display because they didn't know how to print a bill. Amongst this were delivered over cooked duck and a strange tasting rib eye steak that was sent back and replaced with pasta that didn't taste strange. In fact, it didn't taste of anything at all. So we'll leave it another two years before attempting this place again and it might be a good idea for you to do the same.
We went on a Wednesday. Very few people and still we were offered no choice of table, which was located in the restaurant section next to the bar. The Tacos starter was plentiful for two but did not look very nice. We both chose Tuna. The fish was cooked as pr request, but the vegetables had been soaked in a salty sauce and was not good
A couple of small things let this down from being a top rating. Don't be put off, though. Still has loads to recommend it. The location and ambience are amazing. We initially sat inside but an outside small table became available outside quite quickly and we moved as we were ordering. The starters were slightly disappointing compared to the mains. The garlic mushrooms were salty and unexciting, the fried camembert slightly over-cooked etc. Mains were much better. I had a lovely sea bass (generous portion) on a bed of spinach and pine nuts, my son and his partner shared an excellent seafood paella, but the chicken skewer and salad that my wife had was again far too salty. Service was mixed. Male member of staff was friendly but female waiter was very unwelcoming. Never cracked her scowl all evening.
Buena comida en una calle con encanto. Buen servicio.
Ubicación buena en el centro de Mijas, comida bien preparada y servicio rápido
