I've been to this place a few times over the years. The first few time the food was excellent. Over time the food hasn't been the same. Except the mac cheese. I've always ran for the oxtail, my daughter the ribs. But for the last few years the oxtail and ribs have been hard an tough. NOT TENDER at all! The greens are ok, but the leaves aren't cut down good. So your eating almost full leaves. Some may like it like that. The flavor of the food however is good. Don't do the oxtail or the ribs unless you have teeth and jaws like a lion. They need to boil the meat before cooking.
Needed food to take back to hotel and this place was perfect! A variety of food options!
Hot and fresh busy with a lot of people but fast service. The food is very good. If you are looking for good comfort food. The navy Lima beans and turkey wings were my favorite. Cornbread and greens were also a hit. My least favorite is the Mac and cheese. Yams were sweet and soft. Potato salad mustard style and sweet as well. The banana pudding is good but it?s not scratch custard made. I was overall satisfied. After I purchased my meal I sat outside at the table and ate on a Friday during lunchtime and still enjoyed myself other than a few flies a couple times it was a good setting.
Wonderful, very tasty, authentic food to take home or to eat there. Live music (weekends) played with great spirits. We went there as visitors-tourists and it was one of our best experiences in NYC.
