Went here with some friends for dinner the other night, was excited for some prime quality sushi. We got there around 6:30 PM and the place was completely empty. It was eerily quiet and downright awkward the entire meal. The sushi chef (very sweet man, quite old but still going! listed some items he recommended we try. We liked this...until he ended up listing EVERY ITEM on the menu, huh??? Anyways, the sushi was good, nothing spectacular though. For the price, it is certainly not worth it. They were also out of 50% of the niche fish options that we wanted to order... Wouldn't go back for $10-$15 per PIECE of nigiri...
This place is the real deal. Fish flown in from Japan . We had the most AMAZING toro, yellow tail, salmon roe, tomago and miso soup. The ginger and wasabi are totally fresh and light! It would be enough that the food was amazing the staff and chefs are friendly and so polite. Everyone greeted us at one point or another. Don 't be deterred by the second floor location. This is one of the best kept secrets in New York.
My sushi sensei, funny Uezu san lovely Maria. Always love your SIMPLY SUSHI. More than 4 decades as original sushi chef in Manhattan. Long live,,,,,,
There was a mix-up with a hand roll that was mistakenly given to us, angering the chef. The chef eventually threw the hand roll back, causing me to feel uncomfortable and ready to leave. Despite the mediocre experience, the bill came out to a hefty $321.30 before tip. The chef's behavior was unprofessional and left a bitter taste in my mouth. The final straw came when I witnessed the chef rewrapping the hand roll that had been taken from us, potentially serving it to another guest. This lack of hygiene standards and poor customer service was unacceptable. The food was decent, but overpriced and far from world-class. I have enjoyed high-end sushi in many cities, and this restaurant does not meet the mark. The server was pleasant, and the sushi was passable, but I will not be returning to this establishment. The lack of professionalism and hygiene standards make it a place I cannot recommend.
