Underrated restaurant alert! Made a reservation for a weeknight and had an amazing meal at Le Fond. My boyfriend and I both started with the cappelletti spritz cocktail and some Hudson Valley chicken liver mousse, then shared: Great meadow farm heirloom tomatoes Stuffed black horse farms snap peas Veritas farms egg tagliatelle Williams farm zucchini cappellacci Black horse farms berry tartlet The highlight was the zucchini cappellacci, but everything was fantastic. Will be back for more ASAP!
Le Fond feels too good to be true. It’s a cozy little spot with a simple wine and food menu. It’s one of those places where you cannot make a bad choice. And on top of all that, it’s very reasonably priced. It feels local, low-key and home made, but with Michelin level taste and presentation. Each dish we had last night brought us somewhere. We started with a gazpacho presented in a champagne glass. It was very authentic, transporting us immediately to a trip we made to Madrid. We then shared three small plates, all delicious, the stand out being a chive and cherry tomato tagliatelle. Again giving an authentic flavor, this time on par with the best pastas we’ve had in Italy. Then, we shared a roasted duck entree that sat over crispy potatoes. The duck fat was perfectly crispy and the middle tender. Finally, we shared a strawberry tartlet with fresh strawberries and blueberries. It was a perfect meal as usual. Part of me doesn’t want to write this to gate keep this cozy place but I couldn’t help myself!
Le Fond is an absolute gem and quite charming. It's quiet but just busy enough, and the amount you pay for what you get is great. I chose the sourdough bread, which came with the restaurant's butter, and it was definitely a good choice. I can't quite remember what the fish was for the 4 course option that was offered, but it was absolutely delicious. My brother got the steak frites. I tried some of his, and I'll say that my fish was definitely better as the steak seemed very plain to me. I'd recommend trying something else other than the steak frites. The cheese spreads were great, but next time, I'll probably opt for the dessert option. The wine I got paired perfectly with my fish, and our server was attentive and made sure we always had our waters full. Overall, we had a great time and told the server we'd be back again, especially to try the cheese fondue. A solid 4.5/5!
Great atmosphere, great food and great service. Love the half wine bottle option.Had a surprised birthday party there for my husband seven years ago. Hope for an expansion of the menu.
