I ordered a nuggy pot with chocolate sauce, which was fine. My husband got a latte and my son ordered a 6-pack of churros with dip. We sat at a table that wasn't properly cleaned, and the floor was dirty. Even though it was raining and it was around 3pm, the cleanliness could have been better. My husband's latte came without sugar, and when we asked for some, we were told they had run out. We were disappointed that no one had thought to get more sugar. Also, my son's 6 churros only had 4 in the pack, and when he asked about it, he was told they were bigger than usual. Overall, we were unimpressed and unlikely to go back.
Called in tonight about 9pm , only takeaway available as they were cleaning sit in area. Not a problem. Ordered pancake stack with lotus biscuits sauce and ice cream. Also churrios and 1 shot americano. Girl that served us was pleasent and very capable of putting together order in short space of time. Everything was delicious. My only observation, that I'll not deduct a point for was, girl that was brushing floor of cafe, left brush and pan to go behind counter to serve another customer. She did put on a pair of disposable gloves first, but would have thought she should have washed her hand's after brushing floor etc before putting on gloves and serving. Good hygiene is hard to beat.
I expect better from Nugelato and will probably avoid the Newcastle location in the future. My experiences at their other locations in Newry and Stranmillis have been positive. I suggest that the Newcastle Nugelato improve staff training and hygiene when making their nuggy pots. They should provide clean aprons for the staff to wear, as well as more serving utensils to prevent them from using their dirty hands on the food.
We went to premises that were previously The Strand in Newcastle now serving Nugelato. The ice cream was not fresh. We had vanilla. It was really hard, had no flavour and even the wafer was not fresh. To pay £5.20 for that was absolutely scandalous.
Was very disappointed with my visit. The staff grunts at you and if you havent been before they get impatient- all I simply asked was what's the different sauces. There was no sign to say but it looked like about 6 different bottles. I dont eat chocolate so that was a tough decision........ Sticky floors and a sticky counter. I would have probably given it another try had the staff been nicer and explained what's what.
