My daughter and I went on vacation in this area. It's not too far from the beach. We were looking for sushi places and found this on Yelp. They have a great selection of sushi. It's all super fresh and tasty. It's a small place so their seating is limited, but we never had a problem finding a seat. We came here three times while on vacation because we loved it so much. People usually order out. One time we order by phone and we just ate there.
First visit to Ichiban! We got the Pink Lady, Spicy Tuna rolls and the Black Pepper Seared Tuna over Spicy Tuna. All were delicious and we will definitely order them again. Everything was fresh and prepared to order. Can’t wait to try more of their selections next week.
The overall rating you see now for Ichiban was built with love by the previous owners who have likely since retired. Back when Osaka in the Hamilton Mall was good and especially back when Ichiban was first established five years ago- we had a wonderful gem in the area for amazing sushi. The new owners seem friendly enough but the quality of the food and preparation are nowhere near what you were able to find here. Sushi burritos have been continued but it lacks texture, garnish and flavor. Trying the spider roll, soft shell crab salmon sushi burrito, everything just seemed less than half-baked and had a strong resemblance of garbled leftover fish. If all you're craving is a California roll, they sell that here.I really dislike giving poor reviews to local shops and restaurants but those expecting what used to be, will only be disappointed. The restaurant that sits here has built a popularity that already has a customer base. If the owners continue to serve whatever it is that they're serving now, they'll push away the momentum that was built for them. Until then, other restaurants serving sushi nearby will remain as better options.
We were going to my daughters house and she asked what we wanted for dinner. I didn't want her to make a fuss so I said I'd pick up sushi. She suggested Ichiban and I'm glad she did. We ordered the Crunch Blue Crab roll, the Godzilla roll, the White and Red tuna roll and a regular Eel Avocado roll. All were very good and the service was extremely fast. My daughter ordered 5 rolls so along with ours we had 9 rolls and was ready in about 20 minutes. It could have been a slow night so I wouldn't pressure them, I think we got lucky. What really stood out for me was the fried outside of the Godzilla roll which added a great crunch, and the real crab taste from the blue crab roll. The other two rolls were very good also. Wish it was closer to where I live.
