Very casual and great for families and plenty of free parking. Everything is fresh, order your burger by size. There is a “fixin’s” bar in the middle of the restaurant with pickles, onions, relish, etc. A great way to make your burger, hot dog or sandwich your own. French fries in a basket, old fashioned milkshakes.
We visited Jacks for lunch today and we were very disappointed. Even if you prefer well-done temperature, you would not have satisfied. They say they use top-quality steak meat to make the burgers, but you couldn’t tell as over done as it was. The burger was dry and season less. It was even quite expensive for the half pound Big Jack. I ordered a side of mushrooms and there were only 3-4 on the burger. Not worth the price of .75. Although where the food fails, the service staff is very friendly and is exactly what makes a locals’ place special. It’s just not enough to cover up for poor food. We were so excited to try something new in town, but sadly it’s our last. I hope they get it together.
I arrived a little after noon time. Nice lunch crowd. Plenty of places to sit. Restaurant was clean. Had a fixing station in the center. For the most part it was clean and customers kept it sanitary seeing it was self service. The young lady behind the counter Gabbi was very friendly. As far as the food, You can taste the freshness of the meat. However, As others mentioned in their reviews, the burger had no taste. You definitely needed to add salt, pepper, and whatever condiments your preferences are. If a plain simple burger is what you enjoy, this is the place for you. If not, I suggest somewhere else. I also ordered a bowl of chili which in my opinion was better. I added fresh onions and hot sauce for a bit more flavor. Depending on your palette, Jacks is hit or miss.
Jacks has been a landmark burger place in Fort Lauderdale for over 50 years. I think the food is average at best. Very simple menu. Cheap prices. Have a feeling it once provided better food.
Jack's Old Fashioned Hamburgers has been in business for decades in Fort Lauderdale. After eating there, I cannot understand how it has stayed in business for such a long time. The cheeseburger was a GREASY MESS! There was grease oozing from the hamburger patty and running down my hands as I was holding it. The bun was rapidly disintegrating in my hands. I had to pick up extra napkins during my meal. When I had eaten half of the cheeseburger, I had to stop because I began feeling nauseous. After several minutes I attempted to finish eating the burger. No luck. Every swallow triggered the gagging reflex. Avoiding the risk of vomiting there inside the restaurant, I surrendered and departed. I like moist hamburgers NOT greasy meat sponges! I will certainly NOT return to Jack's Old Fashioned Hamburgers for an encore in self mutilation!
