My best friend and I were really hungry and craving pizza, so we decided to look for a pizza place while we were driving. We found Mizzoni, which was the closest one to us. What a great discovery! Located in Ohakune, Mizzoni is a small truck trailer or shipping container. I was surprised by how small it was, but the pizza there was delicious! I ordered the vegetable pizza with beets and caramelized onions, and I got to watch as my pizza was made, right down to the dough tossing. My best friend ordered a pepperoni pizza, which we found to be different from what we were used to in the US (just an fyi for Americans). The staff member working there was extremely friendly and passionate about the town and the pizza company. He was easy to talk to and we really enjoyed our conversation with him. Since we were the only customers there, we felt like we had a personalized experience. There are only a couple of outdoor tables near the restaurant, so I would recommend taking your pizza to go if it's cold outside. I found it a bit chilly when I visited in early spring, but the view of the mountains was stunning. Overall, I left Mizzoni wanting more!
Ohakune is limited in dinner options, especially for vegans. After struggling to find a restaurant that was open, we stumbled upon Mizzoni and were pleasantly surprised. Housed in a converted shipping container, Mizzoni boasts a woodfire pizza oven that produces delicious pizzas. We tried the Kune (pulled pork with mozzarella, slaw, and aioli), Margherita, Mizzoni (red peppers, chicken, chorizo, and smoked paprika mayo), and Rocket (caramelized onion jam, chorizo, mozzarella, and rocket). They were able to accommodate our vegan request for a vegetable pizza. The pizzas were all tasty, with differing opinions on which was the best. My top choice was the Mizzoni for its moist chicken and delicious smoked paprika mayo, while others preferred the Kune with its flavorful pork and slaw. While the Margherita was good, it didn't stand out as much as the others.
This pizza is so delicious! They taste like traditional italian pizza with a crispy base and wood fired flavour. My favourites are the classic 'Margarita ' and 'the Mizzoni ' with chicken, chorizo and tasty spiced mayo, so yummy. Highly recommended :
