A couple of things we probably need to be clear about here. THe first impression of this place is a bit ... well ... The place is in a backstreet of Mansfield Park hardly the most salubrious part of town in a somewhat down at heel shopping strip. <br/ <br/ If you're one of those Adelaide people who feel that anywhere north of Regency Rd is another country then this really isn't going to suit you. It's quite the way down Days Rd and dangerously close to the wilds of Hanson Rd. So if your natural stomping ground is a leafy green dress circle suburb and that's how you like it then maybe this isn't for you.<br/ <br/ If you're one of those people who like to go to a restaurant to soak up the ambience and revel in the cunningly cutting edge fit out then once again, not for you. <br/ <br/ The place is plain but the service from the delightful lady who greeted us as helpful and attentive.<br/ <br/ And the food! <br/ <br/ We ordered three dishes from the menu, but as is the way there were copious coloured sheets of paper attached to the wall with items some in English, some in Chinese, some in Vietnamese that suggested that the menu could be considered just a starting point.<br/ <br/ First up, the classic Barbeque dish, BBQ Pork with rice. A generous pile of bright red pork with rice and chinese greens. The pork was a red, lean, star anise machine. Succulent, not at all fatty and richly flavoured. Delicious and I had to pretty much fight the person who ordered it to get a piece to try.<br/ <br/ Next, Shredded Roast Duck with Stir Fried Noodles. Egg noodles with duck meat, bean sprouts, more chinese greens and egg. It had a smoky flavour (I guess from the duck) and once afain was generously served and delicious.<br/ <br/ Finally, salt and pepper squid. Beautifully soft squid, without a hint of the rubber bands that this dish can tatse like if badly cooked, fried in crunchy batter that was properly salty and peppery with deep fried chilli, spring onion and so much garlic we had to buy a box of tic tacs afterward. Really spectacular.<br/ <br/ We had three huge plates of food and three drinks from the fridge and it came all up to $48. That's $12 a plate and three drinks at $4. <br/ <br/ $16 to eat great food is a bargain. <br/ <br/ It is cash only, but there is an ATM in the supermarket next door if you forget.
I don't know why this place isn't packed for Sunday lunch, the food is delicious and extremely moorish. A really nice balance of fresh ingredients, with most prices at around $12 per dish. We're coming back to try the suckling pig! Relaxed kitchen style setting, would suit families. Worth the drive. Cash only.
I have never been dissatisfied with this restaurant! I love the quality of the food, their serving is pretty big as well and very affordable for a student like me! The staff were always been friendly and approachable. Aside from having to improve more with the ambiance and overall look of the restaurant, everything works perfectly fine! I would definitely recommend He Sheng BBQ restaurant
Cannot explain how happy i am being able to eat the roast duck and roast pork in this restaurant. Best roast duck and roast pork so far in Adelaide.
