Tonight's meal was about the 6 time we've been here. The wait staff is prompt in coming to get your drink order, then the chef comes to your table to describe what specials he has for you, how it's prepared, and answers questions. There is...no menu, except a chalkboard listing several entrees with prices. We always have Pulpo and salad, and although it is prepared slightly differently each time, it's always delicious. The octopus was grilled tonight, and lamb fat was basted over it, so that the flavor was subtle but wonderful. It was served with marinated slices of portobello mushroom. We ordered a salad of mixed greens, cucumber, tomato, and red onion, all perfectly dressed and all fresh. The bed was artesanal, probably made there that day. We were entertained by the pasta chef making ravioli from scratch. We ordered the duck raviloi, prepared with a butter and cheese sauce with lemon zest. Cappochino and chocolate mousse followed and we rolled on home. The waiter was attentive throughout. Although the cost is equivalent to fine dining, it is worth every penny!
Accidently discovered Andrea's Ristorante and so glad we did. Went on a Sunday afternoon and sat at an outside table. Andrea greeted us and offered us a combination appetizer of calamari and tuna carpaccio with some thinly fried zucchini that was a fabulous start. The...bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar was also delicious. I had the lamb chops and my girlfriend had the robalo fish. Both were superb. And the coup d'etat desserts were the chocolate mousse and the ricotta and mascarpone with fruit and pistachio topping. Looking forward to our next trip there. His family is from Napoli.
We use to go to Ristorante d'Andrea each year we visit SMA. There is no menu, but Andrea personally attends you and offers the food of the day, which is always amazing. Fresh ingredients, just cooked for you. Most times he offers you an entree,...a pasta dish, some main options and a dessert. Quite high prices, but well justified.
We just visited Andrea at his new location. He is back at Hacienda de Landeta on the road to Dr. Mora, only just to the left of the driveway as you enter from the highway. His food is simple Italian cooking with the freshest of...ingredients and everything is cooked to perfection. There is no menu; the server will tell you what they have available that day. Some of the dishes we sampled were his pulpo salad; his ravioli this time stuffed with veal and his roast quail which is extraordinary seasoned well, crisp outside and moist inside. This is still one of the best restaurants in San Miguel. He doesn't go for new or fancy, just simple and fresh. You feel like you're eating in Italy. Prices are on the high side, but well worth it for this caliber of restaurant. I highly recommend it.
